Flower of Christmas by maggiemae

Flower of Christmas

At a low today with hacking cough going on throughout the night! I don’t want to go to Doctor who will prescribe antibiotics - I think this is a big problem.
So much to do on first day at home but the best job I was proud to have done was clear out the glass house of spider webs, grit on the shelvings, dirt on the floor, brush off the chairs and pull out the weeds inside!

This is our waratah (Australian) which flowers just before Christmas and is like a Christmas tree on the lawn! From my window.

Three good things;
1. I almost thought there aren’t any then I thought John helped a lot round the house - even found a stray sock hidden in the freshly dried sheets!
2. The roses are covered in aphids but the rose spray will end that attack!
3. Enjoyed some great 365 photos! Bokeh at Christmas.
Ooh Maggiemae -- take it easy for a couple of days give your body a chance to rest ! and get rid of that cold before Christmas !

@flowerfairyann @mona65 @beryl - so muddled up, I didn't even title this pic properly!

It sounds as though you worked very hard in the glasshouse but your cough doesn't sound too good. Take it easy so that you're 100%for Christmas .
The War at ah looks lovely

Wonderful low key image.

Oh dear! Doesn't sound as if you're at your best, to say the least. This is something you could try ... heard about it recently but haven't put it to the test myself yet ... rub Vicks Vapor Rub (erm .... something menthol that you may have had rubbed on your chest by your mother when you were young? for when you were coming down with a cough?). Anyway rub that on the soles of your feet, put socks on and go to bed. My friend swears by it ... hope you'll find a remedy soon. Anything vaguely natural beats antibiotics!

That is a very impressive specimen, lovely flowers. Hope you feel better soon. For sore throats etc I like a tea made with sage leaves and honey
December 1st, 2015
Neat low-key shot...gosh I hope you get well soon...
December 1st, 2015
You sound like me. I used my inhaler this morning. You do not need antibiotics unless nothing helps and they shock and make sure it is not a virus. Your photo is gorgeous, Maggiemae. I love the lighting. FAV
December 1st, 2015
@kwiksilver I'll get some today, thanks Gillian!

@darsphotos Inhalers don't work with my lung problem, Darlene - have tried. Its some sort of bug. Now drinking Robitusson which is helping! (only a tablespoon) - a decongestant. Just read the directions in better light and it says "every 8 hours when necessary! Yesterday when I looked at them in poor light, I read "when necessary"! Help I've probably overdosed! Hang on to your hats!

That sounds like an awful lot to be doing when you're not feeling well. Get some rest, girl. Beautiful image though.
December 1st, 2015
It would be lovely to see the whole of this plant as the flower colour is such a deep, rich red. Sorry that you're not in good health - hope you start to feel much better soon!
December 1st, 2015
@skstein I don't feel unwell, Sandy - just the debilitating cough! So I'm telling myself - get back to work, girl!
December 1st, 2015
@jammyb Thanks Junie! I saw a bee in one of these flowers yesterday so will try for a photo for that!

Very striking flowers . hope you get a better nights sleep

For the last few nights I have had to search for your photos, anyway tonight I discovered I had stopped following you fir some obscure reason....I have re followed you!
Cleaning our your glass house & all the associated dust will not help with the coughing maggiemae! A whisky would knock you out at night!

Beautiful flower for Christmas! Look after yourself and get rid of that cough soon! That Vic vapour rub on the feet sounds an interesting remedy which I have heard before. Worth giving it a try!
December 2nd, 2015
hope you get some relief soon and start feeling better!
What a gorgeeous low key image! It would love perfect on a Christmas card!

Lovely shot of the beautiful flowers. I hope your cough gets better.

Did you catch the cold and sore throat at Races? I'm susceptible to wind (in summer air conditioning) and get a sore throat quite often.
A wonderful time for this flowering tree around December, just before Christmas. fav.

So pretty! Lovely capture!

Beautiful color; impressive that it blooms at Christmas time -- and your photo of it is gorgeous! I hope that you are all well very soon! Fav!

Intense image with the red showing through the dark. Shows up well against black b/g.

Can I add to what others have said, sit down and take it easy. The world won't come to an end if those jobs aren't done and your health is more important to others closer to you - Auntie Heather has spoken. Lovely capture as well.
December 2nd, 2015
@ladymagpie I don't like leaving a job - but now I'm asking for help more often, Heather! Thanks for your warm comments!

What a lovely view that must be for you during the Christmas season. So sorry to hear you are ill. But if you really need antibiotics you don't want to mess with not taking them. My friend was in the hospital with sepsis ...very dangerous!! Take care of yourself!
December 3rd, 2015
What a gorgeous plant--it looks as if it might be related to rhododendrons and azaleas. Your cough sounds like a huge nuisance, but if it's definitely a virus, antibiotics won't do you any good, and taking them may increase your resistance to them, not a good thing when you really need them. I think lots of liquids are a good when you have a cough, to thin the phlegm and make it easier to get rid of. Do take care of yourself and don't exhaust yourself while you are still unwell.
December 3rd, 2015
@tristansmum Very wise words, Stephanie - virus not bacteria. The flower of the waratah is quite different to azaleas and rhodos - I will post a close up!
December 3rd, 2015
How pretty and nice to have such beautiful flowers to view from your window. Hope you are feeling better soon.
December 3rd, 2015
@maggiemae I am sorry you are going through this. I hope you get better soon. Something is going around here as my son and sister in law are both really sick. I landed in the ER again today (Wednesday) with breathing problems. A shot of Prednisone and use of an inhaler helped but scary that this came on so fast. Using an electric device that works like an inhaler to keep me well at home. They also checked me for blood clots because of my history with them. Hoping for a healthy 2016. Take good care of you. Lots of warm soup and rest.
December 3rd, 2015
I love the rich colour of these flowers. A bit late with this comment so I hope you are feeling better. There is a very nasty cough virus over here which loads of people have gone down with and which seems to last a long time.
December 5th, 2015
@jennywren I do like to hear what you say about the cough. Doctors are not necessarily the answer.
December 5th, 2015
@maggiemae Hubby had to go eventually as he got a chest infection with it and did have antibiotics. I only had it for two weeks, his was about six.n the doctor did say it's a particularly nasty virus that is just around and all the general stuff people take just mask the symptoms. However they may help people to feel better I guess. I never bother as I do feel they are a wast of money, just paracetamols if necessary.

@maggiemae I got really sick and lack of breath Tuesday. Tried to use my electric nebulizer and it was not working. Used my inhaler and called my Dr. She said to use 4 puffs and go to Urgent Care to get a breathing treatment. Urgent Care wanted transport me to the ER with my blood clot history. I said I want a treatment to breath and the Dr refused and said it was a waste of time. I asked for a part for my machine at home and she said NO. I signed a form refusing treatment and went home. Wednesday morning I did not feel well and needed a treatment so had to go to the ER as my Dr was not in her office. I was 100% checked out with a lot of tests and given an injection to reduce the inflammation in my lungs, an inhaler to use and take home and tubing to take home for my machine and a prescription for Prednisone for 4 days. I saw my Dr yesterday (Friday) and she said I have Asthma and adjusted my meds and added one inhaler. Next I am off to a Pulmonary Dr. for further testing. Life has been crazy and will find my new norm. I hope you are feeling a lot better.
December 6th, 2015
@darsphotos To me, what this sounds like you are not telling the medics exactly what is going on! They can't be so idiotic when a person's life is being interrupted like this! I would keep in touch with your own Dr and let her make the decisions as to what to do. Asthma is tough but not as tough as you seem to have to put up with. Prednisone is a steroid and given in certain conditions. Hope you keep up the fight and feel confident!
