After the opening of the Thames Goldfield in 1867, Thames became a booming gold mining town with a population of between 15,000 and 20,000. Visitors from Thames travelled up the Waihou (or "River Thames") using the area for recreation: duck shooting, picnicking, and visiting the hot springs at Te Aroha.
Its a deep and navigable river but didn't see any boats. Just a young boy who jumped off the bridge into the water!
Three good things:
1. He was a strong swimmer and pulled himself up through the thick foliage on the side of the river.
2.Thames may be our next destination!
3. Meeting lots of interesting people.
Lovely red bridge! I do like the way NZ shows the names of the road on the bridge. going across motorways, I've always thought why don't we do that! Thames next, looking forward to that!
What is it about NZ that people love jumping from bridges into rivers or hanging off them by a long length of elastic!! Crazy people! Smiling :) Lovely view. I always admire the engineering of a good bridge design.
Did they steal our River Thames 🇬🇧 🤔
