What did they see? by maggiemae

What did they see?

Yesterday it was floods, today it is volcanic eruptions! What a dangerous place NZ might be! However it was our anniversary (48) and after a visit by the District Nurse (still necessary), we set off for a country pub we like. Great food and set in a lovely rural area called Duntroon.
Across the road from the pub are two early settlers set in stone. Oamaru Stone.
What did they think, how did they feed themselves, no comfy beds at night!
Thankful for:
A very comfy bed at night!
Trust you had a lovely day
Happy Anniversary 😊

@beryl The man looks hopeful - didn't see what the lady's face looked like - probably resigned!

Happy Anniversary, Maggiemae! So sorry to hear about the floods and eruptions. I don't know how the early settlers did it!

Happy Anniversary! Just saw the volcano eruption at White Island on the news website here as I was waking up. I still remember visiting NZ for 10 days as we moved back to the UK from Australia. Loved it, but was very amused and a little shocked by how many pages there were in the phone book dedicated to what to do in case of emergencies: floods, hurricanes, tsunami, avalanche, rockfall, volcanic eruption......on it went! Beautiful place but potentially deadly at times.

Happy Anniversary to you both! Hope you had a lovely day!
So sad to see the news about the volcano eruption. I can remember like Casablanca @casablanca reading the notice on the door of my hotel room when in NZ and seeing all those warnings. I still want to visit your beautiful country again! Fingers crossed!

Happy Anniversary. Saw the volcano eruption on the news this evening. David's brother used to live at Mount Maunganui and we saw White Island volcano smouldering a few years ago when we visited them.

I think the early settlers must have lived on dreams and lots of hard work. Love the view from the back it makes one look out like they were. What lies ahead????

@phil_howcroft Well, we have to wonder, Phil - that many people are killed in a fortnight on the roads! Do we mourn for them!

Belated anniversary greetings! I'm sure you enjoyed your meal and will have a good year ahead- stay safe from all those hazards! I like that you took these figures from behind. It goes with the idea that as settlers they looked at the future while they were firmly planting themselves in the present. Good shot!
