I have got a pair of these in the garden, and have been trying to get a decent shot for a while. They can be very confiding, but I have never had a camera when I have been very close to them.
Till today.
This is a Goldcrest, Britain's smallest bird.
you sure did. I got one of these this morning too. I've never seen one before so was amazed to see yours. Mine is definitely a goldcrest. It was quite a brave little bird, hopping from one branch to another, never staying still but not afraid of me. I didn't get a clear shot in focus like you because mine was hopping around inside a huge bush. Such a shame mines not clear like yours. Lovely shot. Well captured.
@shepherdmanswife Thank you very much, they are reasonably common, normally near conifers, but because they are so small often missed. They have quite a shrill call which can give them away. Seen properly they are a really beautiful bird, and as you saw this morning can be very confiding. I have stood before now with my face less than 18 inches away from the bird as it searches for food in the bushes.
