Shedding some light on mob rule and the old fashioned lynching parties of the old west... by marlboromaam

Shedding some light on mob rule and the old fashioned lynching parties of the old west...

Since my post about Pinterest is so very long, I posted it to Facebook in a note with this pic and another screen shot of the new "pin button" that's being offered on every single listing on Etsy and other sites. The link will be provided below. Sorry, the links in "Notes" aren't live but, you can copy and paste them into your browser. I invite you to read and learn just as much as I have. It's been a very interesting journey.

For those of you, that I'm following and are following me, you know I have always asked for your permission to pin your pics. Just so you know, I randomly selected five pics on my 365 Pinterest boards with "repins" to see if the original link to your 365 post had been modified and none were. I also downloaded a couple (actually just dragged them onto my desktop-which I immediately deleted later) to see if they were full size and see what might be done with them… They were not big enough to really do anything with. Certainly not for a professional printing press, unless you like to look at postage stamp size photos. As for someone using the image on their website or blog, the images are still not big enough in my opinion. But we all know about opinions and everybody does have one.

Keep in mind, I have only "pinned" content from this site. I have not uploaded a damn thing and there is a difference between uploading that which doesn't belong to you, pinning and repining. Pinning leads back to the original link and "uploading" someone else's content you have copied to your computer, does NOT. So for your comfort, let me offer to delete any pic of yours that I have pinned from my boards. I am flexible when it comes to this. Just let me know in your comments or you can email me at marlboromaam@yahoo.com and we'll keep it on the down low for your sake. I don't want any pics on my boards that are NOT wanted there by their respectful creators. The links to my boards are on my profile. I don't hide them from anyone.

I'd like to thank those of you who have shown your support over the past several days. I know some of you are here because you saw pics from 365 on Pinterest and that's how you became interested in the first place! I've got my flack jacket on! Cheers!

Just click the link and it should take you to an album with two pics including this one. Click the photo and you will see the link to the note with my write up and all the other links I checked out and read myself. This was a whole lot of work but, it was the principle of it for me. You'll see why in the note and if it doesn't work, for goodness sakes, tell me! http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.197866593654107.42352.100002923041390&type=3&l=5bf6584f1b
Yup, it does. It seems to have Maggie Mae McCain on it. Is that you? Me too. This photo is very attractive for it's lack of color. Did you make it sepia? It's very effective
February 23rd, 2012
Great sunflare! Love this!
February 23rd, 2012
Lovely tones!
February 23rd, 2012
@maggiemae I did make it sepia tone, Maggiemae. I wanted it to look as close to the old west as I could. Yeppers, that's me! Thank you for your comments. Really appreciate it!

@nicedof Thank you, Jp! =)

@magdalenabas Aww! Thanks, Magdalena!
February 23rd, 2012
Needs to be viewed large- very effective image. Noose and sun flare this pic has it all. I think you've only pinned one of my photos and I'm fine with leaving it where it is. You've done quite a bit of research on this Maggie- well done- very informative! Thank you- it's nice to be informed!!
February 23rd, 2012
I appreciate your asking about pinning...but I have personally just resigned to the fact that people can do whatever they want with our work. I'm not a professional, and to be honest, I love it that people enjoy my work... :) as for this photo, the flare is really nice and what an interesting rope. We have a similar one in our backyard hanging from the tree by the treehouse. I can't remember why it's there, but the kids swing on it....but it does look like a lynching rope! :)
February 23rd, 2012
Awesome sun flare!!! And the tones are beautiful!!!!
February 23rd, 2012
Beautiful shot. The lighting and colour is just gorgeous.
February 23rd, 2012
I feel so bad for you as I have seen you ask over and over for permission to pin photos. You always do. I never visit pinterest and would not want to get started with another thing to do as this keeps me busy enough trying to comment on everyones photos and then post my own. So time consuming for me. I hope all works out well in the end. This is a really good photo, color you used and all, though it freaks me out that people were hung.
February 23rd, 2012
I like this pic and the lighting a lot!!
As for pinning, go ahead with mine as you have. I think it is very nice of you to share my pictures that you enjoy, because chances are that others will enjoy them as well.
February 23rd, 2012
@heidievans73 Thank you, Heidi! Really appreciate your comments! It was a whole lot of reading anyway! No wonder my peepers are bad!

@sdpace Stacy, I can appreciate what you're saying about your photos. But, I won't be pinning anything from here until it's in writing from Pinterest about the original pinned content vs. illegally uploaded content. Afraid the poison has already done its job. Thank you very much for your kind comments about my pic. LOL! It's not great and I know that. I just wanted something to illustrate my point. It's a terrible knot and the rope is nylon vs. hemp that was really used in the old west.
February 23rd, 2012
@cheyrebecca Thank you, gal! Appreciate you stopping by!

@munchkin84 Thank you, Kirsty! Really appreciate every word you said!
February 23rd, 2012
Nice tones and perspective. I have looked at your work and am very impressed. It would be an honor to follow you.
February 23rd, 2012
Aww . . Maggie. I am sad because you are sad. You've done nothing wrong here except for being a shining star on 365. You enthusiasm has been a great spur for keeping me going through so many hard times. Love the photo that you posted here . . great color and lighting. You've got my support, friend. :)
February 23rd, 2012
Interesting read, thanks for your research. You photo is wonderful, excellent statement.
February 23rd, 2012
Sorry you are having such a struggle with this. I was/am honored that you asked to pin one of my pics. Will read your note to learn more but I am happy to be pinned or repinned: ) Totally cool shot...something from the wild west! Love the sun flare, sepia tone and just like that it's something so different than what I have ever seen on 365! Fav for sure!
February 23rd, 2012
@darsphotos LOL! Darlene, I'm okay. Really! God bless you! I'd give you the biggest hug if I could! Believe me, all I did was pin my favs. I had a few other boards in the beginning but, I chose to spend my time on my project. It only took a few seconds to pin a fav. I did like to look at all those gorgeous pics on the boards though. That was nice! Thank you for your lovely, kind and thoughtful comments! Yep, people were hung and without a trial! They're being proverbially hung without trials today by the way we behave.
February 23rd, 2012
@jbar Thank you, Jonie! Appreciate your comments. I really did enjoy watching my favs get repinned and liked. My links have been there for all to see how their pics were doing, too. I'm glad you feel that way, Jonie! =)
February 23rd, 2012
Such a gorgeous photo, and thanks for all the info! I'm happy to have my stuff pinned, and I consider it an honor that you've enjoyed some of my photos enough to share them. I feel badly that you got caught up in all of this - you've always asked permission and never made claims to material that wasn't yours. Don't let anyone get you down - you're a wonderful member of this community and I'm very glad I've gotten to know you through your photography in the past few weeks.
February 23rd, 2012
Deb
Very thought provoking, Maggie. Thank you for being so positive and supportive of my shots. I love your work and look forward to more Marboromaam in the future :)
February 23rd, 2012
@jaboney Well, Mike I follow back everyone that follows me. So I'll return the honors shortly. Trying to get caught up with everyone I follow now! Thank you very much for your kind comments. Very much appreciated!
February 23rd, 2012
@karenann Aww! Girlfriend, I'm not sad... I'm pooped! LOL! My eyes are really pretty blurry right now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Karen! I really appreciate every single word you wrote. It means more to me than you know! God bless you! I'd give you the biggest bear hug if I could, too!
February 23rd, 2012
Thanks for sharing your wisdom. So helpful! Love the sun flare and sepia tones.
February 23rd, 2012
gorgeous lighting!
February 23rd, 2012
this is a great shot.. and I'm sure the noose is for somebody out there. and you can "pin" anything you like of mine.. because then I know its good!..
February 23rd, 2012
Well, I was honored when you asked to include one of my pictures with your pins.. For me it's just exciting to know that maybe someone will see my picture and enjoy it.. I know that your enthusiasm will continue and I'm happy for it.. This picture is definitely very strong..
February 23rd, 2012
ooh, very nice :)
February 23rd, 2012

February 23rd, 2012
Maggie..hey I just friend requested you on FB...
February 23rd, 2012
Beautiful
February 23rd, 2012
Hi Maggie, I am a little out this loop (no pun intended) but I think I know what prompted this. In any case, I'm with you and I thank you for choosing one of my pics to pin. Your shot here is brilliant.
February 23rd, 2012
You can pin my stuff whenever you want, I really couldn't give a rats patootie, people will find a way to take whats not theirs and use it howevever they want, thats the internet and if you don't like that then you shouldn't put your work on a public site.
I'm in agreement with @sdpace, I'm not a professional and I don't believe anyone would want my work anyway.
I want to give you a big hug for spending so much of your time working this out and I trust in what you say, you're a lovely lady xox
February 23rd, 2012
Oh and btw, I do like this pic, looks great:)
February 23rd, 2012
I always pin my own daughter's photos. (Melee) She likes that other people repin her pictures. It gives her confidence.

Chin up friend! You are a great support for those you follow and I enjoy your photos and cowboy theme!
February 23rd, 2012
Well set up shot - eerie almost. Sun flare is lovely. You are a good person, Maggie, that comes through in your tireless support and encouragement that you give so many people on this site. I was thrilled to have you pin one of my photos. Stay true to yourself.
February 23rd, 2012
Hey girl, I could use a hug, meantime, here is a big hug from me to you. Hope you got it. My Father-In-Law (whom has been gone for years) used to say, "We all have our cross to bare, boy do we. I am glad you are ok. You are very welcome, Maggie. You are the sweetest and kindest person and I am lucky to be here learning and meeting people like you, though they are a somewhat rare commodity. I may drop you an e-mail and wrote yours down, if you do not mind. I will subject it with this site so it does not go to your trash. Hanging has always freaked me out and believe me that I know there are such cruel people out there today who will hang others in a second.
February 23rd, 2012
@cmc1200 Thank you, Caryn! Appreciate your kind and thoughtful comments.

February 23rd, 2012
Wow, awesome sunflare!
February 23rd, 2012
Not worried that you have posted my pics to pinterest. Great photo here, but a little sombre with noose. Don't know how to tie one even
February 23rd, 2012
Very evocative shot! And the light and flare, and the starkness of the tree silhouettes, all add to the great sense of drama and anticipation. Great shot!
February 23rd, 2012
Pam
Maggie, Please keep pinning mine if you like. I have always thought that if anyone in their right mind would want to download my pictures and use them for whatever I would be flattered ha ha! I am not a professional photographer and don't make a living from it then why should I worry. I love this sunflare! Very cool shot! Glad I will be calling you Maggie now instead of Ma'am:)
February 23rd, 2012
Maggie, when you asked permission to pin one of my photos i was only pleased and shocked that you wanted to! so im totally cool with it staying where it is :) oh and i love your shot!
February 23rd, 2012
Beautiful shot and processing.
February 23rd, 2012

February 23rd, 2012
I love this sun flare, well done
February 23rd, 2012
it's beautiful , love the sepia tones
February 23rd, 2012
Perfect shot for your commentary today, I love the lighting and composition in this. As for the pinning, you're welcome, if you ever decide that any of mine are worth it, to pin your heart away :)
February 23rd, 2012
Beautiful colours :O)
February 23rd, 2012
You've always asked before you pinned. It doesn't bother me at all. If people are worried about their work being 'lifted' they shouldn't be putting it online to begin with. Once it's online, be it here or somewhere else, it's free game. That's why a watermark should be placed. To be most effective that watermark should go through the image not just sit in a corner. If you ask, someone says yes, then they get pissy about it's their issue.
February 23rd, 2012
Uh-Oh! Somebody screwed up! :-) Glad it's not my neck going in that noose!
Great shot - really has a lot of drama to it!
February 23rd, 2012
you are doing the right thing & looking out for everyone too.
Very cool shot here btw wtih the sun burst as well! Wait a minute there are two sun bursts - where was this taken???
February 23rd, 2012
Gee-wizzz, take something fun and interesting and it always gets someone with a negitive attuide to mess it up. Sorry you've had to go through all this. Now, about this photo... I feel I've gone back to the old west, what a capture of negitive attuides to hang! =) Hang in there girl... pun indeed
February 23rd, 2012
I wouldn't want to be hanging out your way ;-) Seriously, this is a terrific shot of those good (?) old days out west--well portrayed. I'm not familiar with Pinterest and don't have time to get involved with anything else. I barely have time for this---but if ever you want to pin something of mine, you are welcome to do that. Looks like you put a great deal of work into that project & hope all is resolved soon.
February 23rd, 2012
@saaski Thank you, gal! Appreciate the comment!

@peterdegraaff Aww! Thank you, Peter! I don't know how to tie a hangman's knot either! I just tried to make it look like one as best as I could. =)

February 23rd, 2012
i too, love the sunflare and your processing here! an amazing shot! i dont know if i have missed alot while i was gone, about your pinning and pinterest, but i really dont see what the big deal is. I dont know anything at all about pinterest, except that alot of ppl go on there, haha, but i am not allowing myself to get into something new as of right now. I already spend to much time on the computer. I hope nothing major was said or done to you :( I love that you love my work so much :D Chin up girl.. hugs :D
February 23rd, 2012
@redrucksack Thank you, Eva! Most appreciated!

February 23rd, 2012
This picture is so powerful and beautiful! You take such amazing pictures, you are such an inspiration! Love the moment you captured!
February 23rd, 2012
@blessy God bless you, Blessy! That's probably the nicest thing anyone ever said to me here and that's great for my ego. However, in all honesty, it really isn't that great of a shot. There are so many really amazing photographers on here that do so much better than I do. Those are the ones I draw my inspiration from. I hope you're following some of them, too! Thank you for your very kind and thoughtful comments. I really appreciate it! =)
February 23rd, 2012
I love the light of this shot! I can imagine you while taking this shot :)
February 23rd, 2012
@simonesta Thank you, gal! I can appreciate that comment, too! =)
February 23rd, 2012
love the sunflare, interesting shot...btw I love your enthusiasm and passion, and dont mind at all about the pinning, and you do always ask, all you're doing is giving others a chance to veiw shots that you like, after all 365 is all about sharing our pics, keep your chin up gal xx
February 23rd, 2012
@paulineb Thank you, Pauline! I really appreciate your kind and thoughtful comments. Means a lot to me! =)
February 23rd, 2012
Amazing how you made something so dark looks so pretty and golden. Love the flare, it looks like something out of a western! It saddens me to see this Pinterest stuff is getting to you. I am so glad you pinned. You have made my last two months because of it.
February 23rd, 2012
@copperheadglass Not getting to me, Meredith. It was the principle and involved my integrity. I could've been silent but even a lack of action IS an action and I've seen enough results in this country because of lack of action... We're reaping exactly what we've sown by lack of action. LOL! It's the old American "cowboy code"... I will defend the things I hold dear and my integrity is one of them. I will stand by my friends and stand by my word or I'm no good to anyone. =) Thank you for your comments. Hoping to start pinning again soon, but as I said in the note on Facebook. I want it in writing from the horse, first. I have noticed many of my followers are NOT touching this post. I appreciate that you did comment along with the others. It means a lot to me to see true colors here. I learn very profound things every day. =)
February 23rd, 2012
Hey - I just friended you on FB, if you don't want weird people on your FB, you can tell me. LOL!!!! :o)

I missed a few things the last couple of days (I had company and then got busy) So I don't know what I missed, but I am going to try to catch up now.

I agree with "The Stacy" If you post it on the internet, if someone wants it bad enough, they will find a way to get it. I worry about people stealing stuff sometimes or using it inappropriately, but again, it's on the internet. It can and will be taken. So try not to worry too much. However, I'm reading this backwards (In meaning I have to go through the other days to see what's up) I will catch up with you when I'm done reading.
February 23rd, 2012
nice shot & processing!
sent a request on facebook :)
February 24th, 2012
@jenp I confirmed! No, I don't worry about that sort of thing, Jennifer! Happy to have you! Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I really do appreciate it.
February 24th, 2012
@earthbeone Thank you, Pamela! Confirmed, too! =)
February 24th, 2012
@marlboromaam Nice note on FB. You did a LOT of research. I've been a G+'r for some time and the first photographer I circled there was Trey. Lots of respect for him and what he does for spreading the photography bug to novices like myself. Thanks to the link to his post in your FB note, I'm not following him on Pinterest.

For the record, you have my permission at any time to pin any of my 365 pics. I post them on 365, FB and G+ so there's no hiding them. :-)
February 24th, 2012
The sepia sets a great mood for the shot. Nice!
February 24th, 2012
Whew...so I sent you a friend request, then I saw maggiemae up there saying it was her. So then I got confused. Good thing I saw your comment saying it is you because I was wondering why would you leave a link to someone else? LOL

So....you have a friend request from me lol
February 24th, 2012
@johns366 Thank you, John! Really appreciate your very kind comments. Yes, Trey is such an interesting fellow and such a great photographer! His article was very inspiring to me. You are very generous to allow me to pin your pics but, I always ask. =) I hope to be pinning to my fav boards again soon.
February 24th, 2012
@rmkk Thank you, Marlene! Appreciate your comments!
February 24th, 2012
@keyt427 LOL! Sorry about the confusion, Keyt! I'll tend to it now! =)
February 24th, 2012
Maggie, Everyone else has said what I would say, only better!! I am flattered that you have pinned some of my and my daughters' shots. Anything put on a blog, facebook, 365, Pinterest, etc. is at risk so if people are worried, they shouldn't be posting on the internet. I am so sorry your integrity was challenged, as you are one of the most supportive people on this site. My "parenting skills" were questioned before on this site so I guess some people think they can comment on anything!! LOL!!
February 24th, 2012
Im not sure what's going on Marlboromaam but if you're being hassled - "F'em" you are top notch in my book. Cool pic - a bit scary imagery but very well done!
February 24th, 2012
@twinsplusone Oh my gosh! Someone questioned your parenting skills? Wow! That's freaking unbelievable! How rude! Thank you for your thoughtful and kind comments! I really appreciate it, Sharon. I'm happy to be following you and your daughters. =)
February 24th, 2012
@michaelelliott Not being hassled, Michael. Just a little fed up with the myths, lies and half truths constantly perpetuated and spread like poison every where on the net and how people buy into them without using the brain God gave them to do a simple Google search and read and learn where the truth is. I really appreciate your comments, guy! Thank you for your support.
February 24th, 2012
just read everything on the FB note (i noticed @jenp had commented on it since we are friends but i didn't look at it b/c i didn't know what it was). thanks for taking the time to do so much research and look into everything. i am going to check out some of the links now. really appreciate your time and effort and sharing it with everyone. you're obviously a wonderful person to do that! love this picture, too. the sepia tones are awesome!
February 24th, 2012
@litljen Aww! Jennifer, I am just so fed up with lynching parties if you know what I mean - I had to do something. Thank you for your lovely and thoughtful comments. Happy reading and learning!
February 24th, 2012
So, I realized, I got so caught up on the pinterest thing, that I never commented on this picture!

The picture is very cool - with the light coming down through the trees. And it tells one heck of a story. Like your processing on this too.

February 24th, 2012
@jenp LOL! It's okay, Jennifer. Thank you! I really do appreciate every single word you wrote!
February 24th, 2012
From all your care, respect and correspondence I believe you are acting in my and everyone's interest with regard to pinning.... as @sdpace has stated above - I'm in the same boat - not a professional - just a gal who loves to point and shoot and play with knobs on my camera - if others enjoy my 'art' - it just puts a smile on my face. Thanks for everything. :)

Btw - I have not forgotten your post - I love the lighting. The 'gap' in the branch is interesting too....leaves space for thought. Nice one.
February 25th, 2012
@thebluegnu Thank you so much for these kind comments, gal. You have no idea how much I appreciate every word you wrote. Because of all the rumors, I was really expecting so many would ask me to remove their pics. Not one has asked me yet. If it does start to look like Pinterest will sell originally pinned content, no one will have to ask me because I will immediately remove it as quickly as I can. However, like the attorney explained to me, I doubt this is their intent and their wording in their TOS is just to cover themselves for "selling" the site, if they choose to and not for selling member images. But that's just common sense to me. I don't think the well known fashion designers and models who have their pics pinned would tolerate it without a huge legal backlash. Your support is humbling and I am grateful, truly!
February 25th, 2012
Sun broke the branch!:) Very mystical and beautiful!
February 25th, 2012
@lianasaarepera I like that description! Thank you, gal! Appreciate your comments!
