Acorns!!! by marlboromaam

Acorns!!!

Lots and lots of them for the deer and squirrels! But this photo was taken in September 2011. There's hardly any acorns in the pin oak tree this year and I have no clue why. =( I went digging through my old photo folders to find this one. It was just wishful thinking.

No pine cones this year? oh no.....the deer and squirrels have to adventure somewhere else. .

Hmmm... I wonder why? Another of Nature's mysteries.

Maybe weather conditions determine growth!

What a shame that you're not getting the same crops. All a bit of a worry!

Lovely shot. Could it be that the tree was on lockdown? Hehe.

@dutchothotmailcom No, very few acorns this year. I'm going to google it later.

@koalagardens Thank you!

@robz It may be the heat this year. I will check into it.
September 3rd, 2020
@sangwann Thank you! I think the hotter than usual summer may have something to do with it.

Beautifully captured and I really like the different shades of green

@kgolab You are very kind! Thank you!

A beautiful photo - we seem to have fewer so far this year, but still plenty of pine cones fall onto my patio!

@linnypinny Thank you, Lin! It's been hotter longer than normal here in the midlands of South Carolina this year. I wonder if the heat has had an effect. Or maybe not enough pollinators?

@linnypinny Just found this info... Summer Tree Stressors

A tree’s stress can be from too much rain, too little rain, a too-hot summer, or other factors. But it’s usually dependent on local conditions. In fact, just like “mast years” can happen in Virginia but not in neighboring North Carolina, the same is true for stressed-out trees dropping green acorns. It’s not happening everywhere.

Hmmm a mystery for sure.
September 3rd, 2020
@kvphoto I think it's the hotter than normal summer, KV. No bumper crop of acorns from my pin oak this year.
September 3rd, 2020
Lots of acorns in this picture. One year is better, the other is worse. Maybe there will be more acorns next year?
September 3rd, 2020
great shot, it was really a beautiful tree with many acorns, I like acorns I collect them and then I do small jobs for Christmas....I'm sorry that this year was not prolific, obviously this crazy climate has effected
September 3rd, 2020
@haskar Thank you! I really think it's been a hotter than usual summer and it's stressed the tree out.
September 3rd, 2020
@santina Thank you, Santina! You are right. The extra heat has just stressed the tree this year.
September 3rd, 2020
A lot indeed ! So many reasons why you have less now .. pollution, old tree, climatical change...

Nice

@pdulis Thanks!

A lovely sight - I wonder why the shortage this year?
September 4th, 2020
@fbailey Thank you! From what I've read, it's been the extra heat. The tree is too stressed to produce.
