Scarab hunter wasp...

I have a very similar shot of this critter in my album from nine years ago. I often find them on the passion flowers. Looks a bit neanderthal to me for a wasp. Link here - https://www.whatsthatbug.com/2009/03/12/scarab-hunter-wasp-2/

Nine years ago today - there was a rust theme going on here - https://365project.org/marlboromaam/365/2012-08-04
Nice photo, not sure about what type of critter it is, perhaps a beetle?

If you don’t get an ID, try posting some from a different POV, head on, side on, from above. If I spot something different, I try to get several shots, not always perfect shots, but they give you a more complete view of it. Sometimes it two different characteristics which successfully lead you to the correct ID. Good luck.

@chesney_7 Its wings are translucent, so I don't think it's a beetle. Thank you, Cheryl!

@markp Thanks, Mark! Appreciate the advise.

Those orange spots, someone must know ?

@ljmanning Thanks, Laura! All it would show me was its rear end.

@dutchothotmailcom It's been identified. I updated it above. =)

Very strange bug. I hope you figure out what it is.

Beautiful shot of this unusual critter, it sure has hairy legs! Love the passion fruit flower.

Lovely close up. The insect is too dark and has very little detail. The paws are flies and the abdomen indicates hoverflies. But it's still a huge family.

Don't recognise the critter, but he sure is having a good feed on your Passion flower.

I googled Mammoth wasp….looks similar.
