Mockernut Hickory or Carya tomentosa...

One of my favorite native trees to the Carolinas and Georgia. It's leaves "normally" turn a golden yellow in the fall - without all those brown spots. Its bark always reminds of an old zig-zag scrub board my grandmother used to wash my grandfather's really dirty work clothes after farm chores for the day. The heat from this past summer, along with not enough rain - then too much rain, just stressed out all the trees around here. Maybe next year will be better. Shot with my LG.

More info on this beautiful tree here, along with some great photos of the hickory nut, leaves and bark - http://namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=279
The plant must have some kinda disease/fungus?

It definitely is not a healthy tree. Hope the next season it will be doing better.

@kvphoto Sad that we didn't get the great colors this year. Been rough on everything and everyone.

@marlboromaam ours has been a mix... the maples and Bradford pears had awesome color and so did some of the oaks... other trees not so much.
