Today, these trees are nearly bare except for a few leaves at the top. What disturbs me is a lack of spiky balls on all the sweetgums around here and I can find no reason why on the web. I tried to spy the new green balls on the trees back in the summer, but couldn't. Hmmm? Last year, there were many. This year, there are none. We had a late frost last spring and I wonder if it killed their blooms and that's why there's no balls. There are plenty of pine cones, but no sweetgum balls. Phone shot.
@kvphoto Two replies so far say it was the frost that killed the blooms. I know you have sweetgum trees around where you are. Do they have any balls? Uhhh, they also said prepare for double the amount of balls this coming year if there's no late frost. LOL!
