Left behind...

Will Connor was making a beeline for it and I wasn't sure what it was, so I held him back. I've found some strange things in the front yard, but this takes the cake. I knew it was guts from some critter, so I asked my good neighbor who knows quite a bit... He said it was the stomach and esophogus of some poor wild animal. Now what kind of wild creature kills a critter and leaves this behind? I have no clue, but the next day, this was gone too! A mystery that I will never solve.

Update: According to mountainlion.org - Bobcats and mountain lions are obligate carnivores, and both species tend to leave the digestive tracts of their herbivorous prey completely untouched, and sometimes they even remove these organs and cover them with debris a short distance away from the rest of the carcass. https://mountainlion.org/2020/11/03/mountain-lion-kill-site-forensics-identifying-predation-scavenging-and-kleptoparasitism/

Now, I know we don't have any mountain lions around here, but we do have bobcats and I hate having to take Will-Connor out at night. We have coy wolves too and I just read that wolves, coyotes and coy wolves do NOT eat the stomach of their kills either.

Phone shot.
My goodness!! The wasps look very interested.

Perhaps dinner was interrupted by some uninvited guests. It does seem strange!

@ljmanning I just did a little research on the web. Amazing what can be found! Mountain lions and bobcats don't eat the stomach and guts. Now, we don't have mountain lions around, but we do have bobcats. We have coy wolves too. I wonder if they don't eat the guts. Hmmm?
