Light pole by mcsiegle

Light pole

I'm tagging this for the current Eye of the Beholder challenge. I would not have normally thought peeling paint on a lamp post was very photogenic, but damn! this pole almost looked to me like a totem pole, the way the paint was peeling away from the letters spelling EMERGENCY to leave such distinct, abstract shapes. (In fact, it was only as I was uploading here that I saw that it said "Emergency." From the ground as I took the picture, I didn't see that.) I also liked the way the blue sky appears to be visible through the light itself -- though I don't think that's the case.
Looks great. The peeling paint makes the whole shot I think.

@alicias Thanks. Agreed. Without the peeling paint, it's just a light pole. It looks like the letters had been applied previously as decals of some sort. Then at some point they painted over it all with black. Now those letters are peeling up. (?) I took another photo that shows part of the bottom of the pole, with other letters. When I go in to work today, I'll have to check to see what it all says.

Glad you clarified as I thought the peeling part looked a bit like letters. You've made this an interesting photo!

Great pov - I'm wondering what the location and purpose of the writing is.

Love this and the peeling paint is very like a reflection to me.
