This one is from my ID for Kansas State University in '72-'73. I did just my senior year there, after dropping out of Marymount College to get married in January of '72 and laying out that spring semester. Yes, this pigtailed person is not a 6th grader -- she's a recently married woman. I decided to gussy it up with a proper late '60's - early '70's look to match the top I'm wearing. I see hearts and flowers and who knows what else -- maybe a sunburst?
The daisy is more realistic than the stylized "flower power" flower sticker on the back of the guitar I had in HS. I upgraded to a nicer instrument in college. It was stolen sometime between '78 and '80. I didn't replace it, as I hardly played it anymore. Would need a crash course to try to play now.
In the photo I can see the strap of a woven bag my dad brought back from Central America. I used it until the strap wore through. Ah memories! The "best" part of this photo? Gotta love those glasses and the cool shadow they're casting on my face.
I do have more attractive photos of myself. (Don't most of us have better photos than what appear on our ID cards?) At some future juncture I may find some 365 use for something that is, to my eye, more flattering -- baby/toddler pictures don't count. We were all uniformly adorable at that age.
@kali66 Well, hey! Thanks, Kali. I radiate niceness, don't I? It's true, it's true -- I was (most of the time). :-) @luvmynynix Laurie -- yeah, hard to believe that I was 21 when this picture was taken. Sheesh! @stevied Thanks, Steve. I won't ask what kind of impact!
I was reading through that blog about this then and now and noticed your picture. My dad went to KState many years ago and I grew up in KS. I like to see photos from KS so I am going to follow you. I went to Wichita State for 3 years but finished in Austin at Texas when my kids went off to school. Nice to meet you!
@libertylady And nice to meet you, also, Alice. When did your Dad go to K-State? And when were you at Wichita State? I have a brother who lives in Wichita and went to Wichita State. His daughter works there now.
@mcsiegle My dad went there a long time ago, probably around 1930. I went to Wichita when it was the Univ of Wichita. My mom had graduated from there in Economics in 1939.
That frame is a touch of genius - and you have a sweet and kind face - Those glasses are oh-so-studious - & very similar to the ones I had at the time!
