As a result of a bit of banter earlier today, I posted a photograph of myself at a younger age. It seems that some folks thought that it was a good enough reason for a discussion to start along the lines of "Throwback Thursday" (perhaps I could call it "Throw-up Friday" instead?) and ask people to post images of themselves as they were in the past and as they appear now. So, I will kick the party off with a photograph of me at the tender age of twenty, all dewy eyed and full of student fervour followed by me, the cynical whatsisname that I am today. So come on folks, let's see how just much more handsome or beautiful you were then, or are now!
First of all, the Student Union card photograph of yore, followed by yours truly as of late last year (and I will censure anyone who says I look exactly the same in both picture!)
@jocasta Thanks Joy. I am going to disagree with you though. A while back, I caught myself staring at a nubile young lady, arm in arm with her mother and the thought that went through my head was along the lines of "You might be a pretty and shapely lass but I do fancy your Mum more!"
I have Facebook to thank for being able to pull up all these old pictures... I have a progression from when I was a little kid all the way up to now in my 30s.
Maybe I will try to dig out the old images that are stored on some disks someplace around here. I'll check out the difference then see if I'm going to post :)
@steampowered It's funny you should say that because my hands were shown on TV caressing one of the patients hands when I worked in ICU at Papworth. I always found it helped to calm people down when they were frightened as they came round from their ops!
Not the greatest shots... but fun to compare, nonetheless... the one on the left is me at the age of 19 (almost 20) in Germany, and on the right, helping out at a friend's party, exactly 20 years later at the age of 40. :)
It's fascinating to see not just how all of us have changed but also have photos themselves have. I wonder what it will be like in say 20 years from now.
In this one, I'm actually the one in back with my tongue out, and my little sister is the one with her thumb down. This was from a family wedding photo.
Here I am all 17 and probably playing Nirvana covers:
@gwhit123 yes, that. i do believe we were being very punk earlier that day and i'd smashed my cheap classical guitar that wouldn't tune in anymore. that's a piece of the neck.
I am so loving this. Great fun to see everyone's former selves. Here is a picture of two old college ID cards and one current ID card from KSU where I work as staff:
and here is the ID photo from KSU in 72-73 with fancy retro 70's atmosphere border -- just because I could:
@sianipops Awww thank you Nia. Yep the big 40 hit me last year. As for the fountain of youth secret all I can think is that it must be the constant disruption to my sleep... ;) Thank you for the lovely compliment, put a big smile on my face. :D
I would like to say a big "THANK YOU!" to everyone here who participated in this fun discussion. I know that it worries some folks to show images of themselves, let alone those at an earlier age in their life (and in particular those showing the fashions of their youth) but I think that you have all been absolutely great and totally big-hearted about it.
@happypat Pat, that is such a lovely collage of photographs. You're a beautiful woman, that's for sure! I love the peaceful look on your face in each shot - from child to grown woman.
It's a bit cheeky, but I am sure they will not mind.
This shot was taken back in 1990 and shows our friend Sue @whysu on the left holding her first child Lucy @lucywhybrow, Mrs B in the middle, holding our first child Andy and Petra holding her first, Timmy.
Here are the same three ladies (the other way round) taken 23 years later.
