Beautiful, and probably the saviours of the human race, if the protesters don't get their way. We need more of them, not only for their beauty but to give us light in the not-too-distant future when we have squandered all the fossil fuel ... but that need not worry us because we'll all be dead by then and our children and grandchildren won't mind suffering for our pleasure, so that's all right, apparently!

@carlt Thank you. I am definitely with you @wordpixman. They are an absolute necessity. I live on the West Cumbrian coast half way between the Sellafield Nuclear Reprocessing plant and the Morecambe Bay Wind Farm. I have no objection to either .. and the wind farm is quite a sight a night time!

Prettier to look at and safer than nuclear energy, and interesting to hear that this is near the contaminated former Windscale site. I remember some years ago walking in the beach at Seascale and seeing cattle grazing on seaweed, so when I returned to London I asked a friend - a government scientist who had worked at the nuclear plant - if this was a radioactivity monitoring initiative, because of the known connection between seaweed, iodine and radioactive milk, and the reported local health concerns, and he looked at me in amazement and said "Oh, don't be silly!" I have wondered ever since if I was really being silly, or if he was gagged under the Official Secrets Act.
