Where Did My Youth Go? by myautofocuslife

Where Did My Youth Go?

"Inside every older person is a younger person – wondering what the hell happened."

My mother gave me this key pendant when I turned 18. That was... a long, long time ago. Most people brush off age as merely a number. I don't. Because I see it in the mirror every single day. Nothing is what it used to be. My hair turns white. My knees pop. My back hurts. Is that another wrinkle!? All that talk about "aging gracefully"? It annoys me. I am not aging gracefully. I am screaming and kicking all the way to my grave.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go play with my dolls.

I have been asking this myself as of late...

Beautiful shot of the pendant . . and great comment, Livia!! Don't worry about age . . it should mean nothing to us. Let's "kick and scream" together! LOL You're an amazing photographer. :)

Lovely shot! Nicely composed.

Love it! And your commentary! Lumix rocks! I have a Lumix DSLR that I am kinda learning how to use. Which means I just smile and nod and pretend I know what aperture means. I traded up my Lumix point and shoot for a Sony, love it! Welcome to 365!

What a lovely key, love your words, but we are getting older everyday, some of us just don't grow up, like me for instance.

Nice shot, and I love your caption :)

lol, beautiful photo and I agree 100%. It takes more to maintain these days and I don't remember signing up for that at all.

If someone out there has the key to aging gracefully (see what I just did there?) please let me in on it - cause I'm not going too gently into that good night either:)

A beautifully taken still-life, and I'm with you on the age thing.....it sucks!
November 24th, 2011
oh bless ya this brought a big smile to my face :))))))

A big "THANK YOU!" to everyone! I appreciate your taking the time to drop by and leave a comment. It's great to know I'm not the only one screaming and kicking about this aging thing. *LOL*

@karenann: I'm not an amazing photographer at all. But I do think my camera's autofocus function and 10-year-old Paint Shop Pro software are amazing! *raises a happy fist*

@Lisa: Thank you for the welcome! I have to agree, the Lumix series rocks. You're so brave to advance to a DSLR. I'm so content with my compact, I'm more than happy to stick to it as long as it will have me!

@Shirley Chetwynd: Thank you! My son, who will be 18 soon, says I act more like the child than the adult in the family. While he reads non-fiction books and plays chess, I'm watching anime, reading comics and playing with clay and dolls!

Again, thank you, everyone! I hope you'll all drop by again when you have the time.

Yea, I know the feeling. If only we could be 18 again-NOT!!

true words, what a great keepsake

Not sure I would want to be 18 again but at least I dyed my hair for fun back then and not to cover up the grey like now!

I fully agree with you. Time flies! I wish I could have my young body again to enjoy life with the emotional maturity I've gained through the years.

Time of life is to short to make worries. I always have sayed : I want to get rich and old . Old I`m, that`s a 50 % score . not bad
By the way . The pedant is beautiful

Livia, I've just discovered your photos today. I love them and am enjoying reading your text as much as looking at the photos. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I love your photos and text. I don't like the mirror reminding me of my age either. I hope I have a long ways to go, creaky joints and all.
