Meet KC. (And now you have met all 5 of my BJD boys. Do you have a favorite?)
KC is the guest who never left. His story: I bought KC as a full doll from Volks because I needed a body for the other custom heads I already owned. I had intended to sell his default head, but never got around to it. The more I saw of him, the more attached I became. By the time I named him KC, I realized I would never sell him. I did wipe off his default faceup, sanded his contours to make his eyes bigger and his cheeks and chin softer, and I gave him a faceup as best I could. (I'm not an artist though. I used pastel pencils only. No paint, no blush, no varnish.)
KC represents that part of me that encounters surprises in life. I am not a very flexible person. I'm more a creature of habit. If something upsets my routine, I get unhappy. But I do want to learn to be more adaptable and less stubborn, and so KC is a reminder for me to improve myself in that direction. KC is not only the guest who never left, he is the lesson I need to learn.
Well hello KC- nice to meet you! I'll have to say my favorite is Ed! Do you have a favorite? (I know it's like asking a parent which one of their children they favor.....)
Think crazy Ed is my favourite but they're all special and quite gorgeous. Tim's daughter has just been down to visit us and she spent all her time setting up photo shoots with her dolls as well. Well done.
I wonder where you find these interesting looking dolls. Their childlike wide-eyed expressions and whispy hair are all so similar, I find it hard to see a difference but you take wonderful portraits of them all. You make them come alive for us. Great collage.
A big, grin-filled, heart-pounding "THANK YOU!" for all your comments! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and meet KC. I'm grateful for your feedback. I do read and appreciate every comment. Thank you!
@Lennon's Mom: Thank you for casting a vote! Crazy Ed seems to be most people's choice! *LOL* I guess I do have favorites: G and J. They were my first SD10 and SD13 (terms that refer to their different size type) boys, I've had the longest relationship with them, so they're extra special to me. I have taken the most photos of them to date.
@marg: Thank you! Are you going to encourage her to get a 365 Project account? I think her doll photos rock!
@Beth: BJD dolls are mostly made in Japan, Korea and China although individual artists in other countries have produced their own dolls. Many BJD owners buy their dolls online. It's the same for me. I bought one full doll (and that's KC) directly from the Volks company in Japan but the rest of the boys were bought from the Yahoo! Japan online auctions. (Volks does have a physical store in Los Angeles. It's their only overseas store.) These dolls do look very similar when you first see them, but they are all customized to some degree or other. Their eyes, hair, clothes etc are easily changed. I enjoy giving them different looks from day to day. And I'm glad to know you've enjoyed seeing their photos!
All of your kind words are very encouraging to me. Again, I am grateful for every comment from everyone who has taken the trouble. Again, thank you!
These are the most stunning dolls, KC is quite handsome. An excellent "triptych" of him. (several have mentioned Ed as their favorite doll, I'll have to go back and study him)
I would have to say that my favorite guy would be J. He seems to be so versatile...I like him in his shades to best. You have an amazing imagination and I envy you for it! Awesome photos!
Hello KC nice to meet you. I must say that my favorite is J. His eyes and face are just so beautiful. I also have to admit that I was on the BJD site for like an hour the other day (the link you shared). I had no idea these dolls were so popular.
Looks like you did a fantastic job of the faceup. I could never tell. I can't say I would like one over the other though, they are all so unique and different.
Hi Livia..I checked out all of your dolls and find same absolutely amazing.. never heard of BJD boys. J looks so cool. do they all represent part of you??
