They are Miltoniopsis orchids. Their rounded petals are flat-faced and they are sometimes called pansy orchids because of the striking resemblance. To me, their petals appear papery and the bright splashes of color look as if someone had painted them on the flower.
@karenann I wish I had the space and the courage to grow orchids but I don't. *sigh* I used to grow really small pots of cacti and succulents when we lived in a bigger apartment with a balcony. Then a cockatoo came by one day and ate some of them! I was mostly stunned. (Stunned that the cockatoo wasn't deterred by the spines on the cacti and that there was a cockatoo out there at all. We usually only see crows, pigeons and other small birds. It was probably someone's pet cockatoo that escaped.) Sorry for rambling. The older I get... 8D
wow - talk about over the top; i was just thinking today about how some flowers are too exotic for me - just beyond my taste; this is a truly fantastic photo though and they are beautiful
these are amazing, and as you have said before ;-) not easily photographed, such a great capture of their colour and texture! Really, red, yellow, pink, white...desperate, indeed! :-) x
