Truth be told, it was a failure of a mission. Most of the photographs turned out blurry or blobby, thereby confirming my worst suspicions that I cannot shoot a moving subject at all. The animals were in no mood to pose for me and you won't believe the number of butt shots I got. Most of the time, it was that or no shot at all. I am not pleased about this, so even though it's going to make me look like a closet masochist, I will be planning another trip to the zoo in the near future. I mean, I didn't even get a single usable orang utan or lion shot! 8(
Oh. That's my shot of a baboon butt. I think it looks like a butt that's happy to be a butt, if I ever saw one that was happy about it.
Trivia: In British English, it's "arse" while in American English, it's "ass" but in British English "arse" means buttocks and "ass" means donkey. "Bum" is also used in British English but while "fanny" is used in American English to refer to the butt, in British English it is vulgar slang for female parts. I have heard of "tush", which I think sounds really cute. According to Wiki, "tush" is Yiddish.
holy cow! that is one interesting booty!! (booty.....slang for butt;))
It's hard to get good pictures of moving objects! you will be more prepared next time!
Ha, ha, ha. Very funny explanation Livia. My youngest, Ben finds both the F and A words incredibly funny still...Secretly I do too, but don't tell anyone ;) And, as arses go, that's a fair old size!!
@cromwell I hope, having seen this, it isn't going to give you nightmares. XD I followed this guy around for a good minute, I think, hoping he'll turn around and give me a proper shot. But he never did and the only photos I have of him are... well, you know. 8P
My English is to bad to go into a discussion . I too have difficulties to shoot animals My camera is to poor for it , so I prefer flowers, With a little luck they are not moving . I admire every pic of animals Your`s great and LOL very funny
ROFLOL! What a butt, bum, fanny, tush, arss or ass! My gosh! It' large and lively looking! Great capture, Livia! Love your sense of humor with this, too! FYI, my grandfather had another name for it, "copperosity." LOL!
wow...i dont even know what to say about this photo, haha, except it kinda freaks me out a bit! LOL. what a capture! Glad my ass dont look like that :P
Nice shot, Livia. One place I want to go to is the zoo when the weather gets better. I like you and nervous about photos as I am not used to my camera totally yet and dread blurry shots but will take a chance. You will improve with time. Try taking photos of animals away from the zoo that move. My cat moves his head and blurry it is. Hope you find some animals to practice on before your next visit.
Oh my! I randomly thought this was a pigs snout when I first looked and could not work out where the rest of his head was lol! Love the description you make me laugh - I will look out for the return visit!
rear end, behind, hinny, so many id's ... lol. your story and some of the subsequent comments are very entertaining. thanks for the smile. as someone said right off the top, butt ugly subject!
When I caught a glimpse of the small pic on the home page I thought 'oh, a piggy snout'. How wrong was I? Well i suppose they both smell :D Interesting perspective :)
LOL . . I need a thousand animal pics to get maybe two good ones. I love this tush!! Did he (she?) ask you not to make his "tush" look too fat?!! Let's go on your second visit together. We can laugh and grumble together and maybe get one good shot. :)
Lol, love the history. My son found out early that he could legally say the word “ass” whenever we passed a field where one lived. And I suppose that butt is something only another baboon could appreciate!
omg that's a tush only a mother could love!!! Although tush is probably too nice a word for this, lol!! My kids used to always giggle when they heard the word fanny on an American show!
That's hilaaaaaarious! It's also so very peculiar and almost looks inside out. Great photo Livia!! If you don't have a DSLR, you could experiment with higher ISOs. The shutter should work faster. Test it at home to see how high you can go without noise ruining your picture.
Bwahahah - you got me. I saw the thumbnail and your name and thought "wow - that flower looks unusual". Then I clicked the link and realised it was NOT a flower!
Hilarious!
Wonderful commentary on the different words we use for the same thing - it made me laugh out loud and hubby wanted to know what I was laughing at ... you should have heard his jaw hit the floor!
OMG! Now that I have picked myself up off the floor from laughing, I have to say that this was a most entertaining shot and read. You are so funny! That butt looks like it imploded. What's up with that? And I loved how you said it is happy to be a butt from your take on it. HAHA
This is funny, Livia. I like all of your butt facts. I've always liked the blue baboon bottoms:). In our house, we call the butt a dupa (which I later found out meant ass in Polish), so we taught our kids how to swear in a different language accidentally.
I'm going to follow you because the combination of this picture, your title and your description was hilarious, not because you take great pictures(because, you know, this website isn't about photography at all! :P)
I am away for a few minutes and you give up orchids for butts? Thank you, Livia, for a very good laugh at a very late hour over here :-). Off to bed - hope this does not haunt me.
Hilarious commentary Livia! Love the Butt/Ass/Arse/Tush definitions and origins! Fantastic capture by the way, can't say I've every seen one quite like it!
A great, big, full-of-sunshine and fun, magnificently loud "THANK YOU!" to everyone!
I am blown away by your comments and responses to this shot. You guys made me laugh and shake my head and then laugh some more. I hope I didn't traumatize anyone too much. When I was shooting this guy in the butt (haha) I probably had the biggest I-can't-believe-what-I'm-shooting look on my own face. I really was hoping he'd turn around but he never did. He just kept walking away from me.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and look and comment. I appreciate every single response I have received. I think it's a fabulous thing, that we all shared a little laughter together, in spite of being in different locations all over the planet.
From the thumbnail shot I thought that looks like a bum. Behold it is a bum. What is she doing taking picutres of bums? Explanation very funny, LOL stuff!
In Tok Pisin "as gras" is the leaves that you wear on your belt to hide your bottom and "as ples" is the place where your bum first hit the ground or the village in which you were born.
It's hard to get good pictures of moving objects! you will be more prepared next time!
Another yiddish slang for buttocks is the word "tuchus", which always gives me the giggles (in a Bevis & Butthead kind of way).
@cromwell Dutch/Yiddish = togus
I thought it was a pigs nose....Don't think i'll ever look at pigs again in the same way !!!!!!!!!!
FAV! :)"

Again, thank you very much! 8D
