This is a shot of the feet of a two-toed sloth as he hung upside down. I didn't have to zoom. These feet were right there, I could have stroked them if I'd wanted to but I knew better than to do that with the animals in the Fragile Forest.
The Fragile Forest is my favorite part of the zoo because, in this enormous walk-in enclosure, there is no barrier between you and the animals! The butterflies, birds, ducks and fruit bats are free to roam and fly. So are the mousedeer, lemurs, sloths and iguanas. More on the Fragile Forest: http://www.zoo.com.sg/l2_t1.aspx?l1=5&l2=37&langid=1
In case you're wondering why you're seeing three toes there on the two-toed sloth, that's because they have two toes on the fore feet but three toes on the hind feet. Did you know that food a sloth eats can take up to a month to digest? I don't think I should ever complain about my slow metabolism again. 8P
Tomorrow, I'll show you my oh-so-poorly-taken shot of this sloth's face as he chewed on a juicy piece of melon.
Too close for comfort!!! Great shot with superb focus! Interesting info on the sloth! What a neat name and place... The Fragile Forest! Looking forward to future photos!
All the better to grip you with! And that is very interesting information about him too (perhaps he spends so much energy hanging on that he doesn't have any left for digestion)
I have no idea how or why (I never met any), but I knew this was a sloth even before I read your caption [shrugs shoulders].
Interesting to focus on the claws only. Gives your photo more mystery (and danger), as if this creature was stalking someone like in a horror movie. Very well done, Liv.
Super stunning catch. Gorgeous clarity .. love the pov. Must say that I don't believe you about the "oh so poorly taken photo of the face," Livia. You don't do "poorly taken photos," my friend. :)
Love the detail on this. Sloths are amazing creatures. But with just the claws, reminds me of something from Stephen King. The unseen creature slowly creeping up from the depths behind you.
I agree with all comments.
Flowers and plants are grow / and sell in our country from all over the world . We grow them in greenhouses / hothouses and sell them on auctions
In Aalsmeer ( A city ) there is the biggest flower-auction bulding of the world. Exported world-wide
I love the detail in this shot, from the course looking fur to the scratches and war wounds on his nails its brilliant. You have captured what you saw brilliantly because I too feel like I could reach out and touch him.
OMG...a month to digest? That sounds horrible! Ugh. Poor guy. I guess that is normal and okay for him though. also did not know about the three toed thing. I learned alot looking at your cool close up!
@karenann Hahaha! But I do. Most of the time, I try not to upload those. Tomorrow you'll see one. Overexposed like whoa in a couple of areas, and not properly focused to boot. Still, despite the fact that it was poorly taken, I like the shot so I'm uploading it. 8)
Love the perspective Livia! While viewing your pic and reading comments, I can't stop thinking about Kristen Bell's Sloth meltdown on the Ellen Degeneres show. It was pretty funny. She really loves sloths! Look forward to the follow-up pic tomorrow!
Ooo so scary with those long sharp nail. Good thing they move so slowly. They'd be really frightening if they came barreling down on you with those claws. Great shot.
A great, big, tough-as-nails, nature-is-amazing, heartfelt "THANK YOU!" to all!
Thank you for taking the time to stop by and take a look. I am grateful for your support. I think I enjoyed taking photos of the animals at the zoo very much. I'm just not very good at it. Your comments inspire me to want to do better. Thank you so much!
wow! up to a month to digest!!!!! i couldnt imagine that!! lol. These are quite the nails! i have never seen one in person. Sounds like an amazing place to visit and take photos!
Looking at this picture I'm trying to see how he hangs down with one fore and one hing foot holding on the the tree branch..I guess he probably hangs sideways. wow you're that close to him to be able to touch...what an amazing place for you..something like the fragile forest is would we should have here.. there is a place where you can drive through and you have the monkeys come to the car..so they advise you not to open doors or windows..they'll hang in there and won't let go..
when our kids were small we took them there...good 2 to 3 hours drive depending on the traffic.
