I Need Lots of Personal Space!

Even though I have better close-ups of this little jumping spider, who is a gorgeous metallic yellow-green all over, I really like this shot instead. You get a feel of how tiny he really is, he takes up so little space on the leaf and what you see isn't even the entire leaf!

On a related note, I'm someone who needs lots of personal space. I'm not the touchy-feely type. I don't like it when people try to get friendly by touching me on the shoulder or arm, or start calling me Liv when I've specifically introduced myself as Livia. If I'm meeting someone for the first time, I prefer a nod and a smile. In a formal situation, a quick and firm handshake. Hugging makes me uncomfortable. The only times I've hugged anyone who isn't immediate family happened at funerals, and only because I was hugged first.

I don't think it's simply a matter of having been brought up in a different, more conservative culture. I do like the distance, and I like keeping it. 8D

(I like how, for this shot, nothing but green can be seen in the calendar view. XD )

Awesome

Great minimalist shot! His eyes are the first thing you see.... :-)

Wonderful
October 12th, 2012
I love these shots :)
October 12th, 2012
Wonderful perspective on this shot. Livia - now I can see just how tiny these little creatures really are! On the personal space issue, I am a hugger and a toucher, but I do like a bit of personal space when out in public.
October 12th, 2012
Love the empty space and also love my personal space :) Lucky me, our culture supports it! And soon we will wear winter clothes and one can barely feel a hug LOL!
October 12th, 2012
great use of empty space fav
October 12th, 2012
Oh he's so tiny!
Totally agree with you on hugs. ;)
October 12th, 2012
Its lovely seeing the spiders size against the leaf.
October 12th, 2012
Really cute shot showing how tiny he is. I'm definitely a hugger so if I ever see you, I'll remember to nod and smile instead ;-)
October 12th, 2012
Great shot gives you the size of the spiders in relation to the size of leaves they live on.
October 12th, 2012
Great capture Livia.
October 12th, 2012
It's great to see how tiny he is in relation to the leaf.
On the personal space issue, I am totally with you when it comes to strangers. But when it comes to people I know, I may be a little OTT with affection.
October 12th, 2012
LOVE the pov and the "space!" He looks like a beautiful little jewel. Amazing capture. And I like my space ... especially with strangers.
October 12th, 2012
Nothing like wide open spaces. Nice shot.
October 12th, 2012
Love the composition of this pic. Go`s well with the lines . Thanks for being so franc . To me, it depends on who`s hugging me and why.
October 12th, 2012
Super cute, too. As for personal space, what drives me nuts is people who get too close to me when waiting in line.
October 12th, 2012
I like the composition, great to see how small the spider is.
October 12th, 2012
Lovely shot... Very nice composition!
October 12th, 2012
Love the focus on the eyes and how much negative space you used.
October 12th, 2012
Aw, sweetness. Never thought that I would say THAT about a spider. Look what you've done to me;-).
October 12th, 2012
Beautiful capture - love the composition and the title is perfect!
October 12th, 2012
Fantastic use of negative space...what better colour than green to provide it too xx
October 12th, 2012
This pic could represent me, too. Love that personal space. Really falling for that wash of green..... :)
October 12th, 2012
brilliant title, great macro
October 12th, 2012
I love your dear little spiders ....but hate the ones at my place!
October 12th, 2012
Fantastic! Love the title too!
October 12th, 2012
he is soooooo tiny!!! Nice POV for a change Livia!
October 12th, 2012
Nat
Fantastic shot to really put in perspective how wonderful your close ups are Livia (and my apologies for ever having called you Liv!)
October 12th, 2012
cool capture!
October 12th, 2012
Love the composition & texture of the leaf! Wonderful green!
October 12th, 2012
wonderful composition and gives us an indication of his actual size!
October 12th, 2012
Does put the size of the spider in perspective. Great capture and you've given him all the space he can use.
October 13th, 2012
Beautiful capture of that little spider.
October 13th, 2012
I like your choice of composition. It's a great photo to illustrate your personal thoughts!
October 13th, 2012
This really shows how tiny he is--great shot, Livia. (I won't call you Liv ; )
October 13th, 2012
Ian
Great focus!
October 13th, 2012
Love your composition in the photo - it reflects your personal feeling of space. THere are times I like space, and times I like closeness - and it depends on who is around! :)
October 13th, 2012
Awesome composition!! This is a great shot for the tiny spider. I'm like you when it comes to personal space, more so if I'm meeting a person for the first time.
October 13th, 2012
Very cute to see the size of the jumper and leaf! Neat!
October 13th, 2012
A nice parallel to your own preferences! I'd be delighted to stay out of any spider's space! I enjoy time to myself, content not to be out in public much, but I do like a hug from someone I love - family or friend!
October 13th, 2012
Definately gives a better perspective of the spiders size. Nicely done.
October 13th, 2012
So tiny but so dominant in that space. Your spiders always seem to be looking straigh into the camera.
October 13th, 2012
Those eyes speak volumes!! How funny that they actually look like they can read right into you! Fantastic shot!
October 13th, 2012
Nice shot with that lovely shining-eyed creature in the corner of a leaf guarding his private zone. And a very meaningful at that - every creature on our Earth must have some private space for itself... but not everyone has got it!
October 13th, 2012
it really is nice to see him this way...shows more of his size
October 13th, 2012
He is minute. Cute too , but isn't he the jumping kind....if so I would def keep to my own space. By the way we are oposites, but if I ever meet you I promise not to cuddle!
October 13th, 2012
@natr No, no! No apologies required. XD
October 13th, 2012
Great shot and I have similar space requirements to feel comfortable!!
October 13th, 2012
Nice capture of the little spidey :) I prefer space until I get to know people too!
October 13th, 2012
Great shot to show off how tiny they really are! I am definitly a hugger ..even to strangers but as of latley i am not into crouds of people and i have always been more of a loner..i get along with myself quite well!! lol! I was a nurse and a massage therapist all of my life so i just couldnt really ever understand why some people really dont like to be touched But i know they are out there and i respect their feelings as i do yours! :)
October 13th, 2012
Great words and image! I love how your words match the image
October 13th, 2012
As you say, the photo gives a great sense of size - super!
October 13th, 2012
Mel
he makes that leaf look positively ginormous! beautiful greens..
October 13th, 2012
Wow! That is really tiny! Thanks for showing us the perspective and size of these little spiders!
October 13th, 2012
great negative space and capture!
October 13th, 2012
Hee hee I do like the sense of scale you get with more of the leaf in there. Cute little guy, nice shot. :)
October 13th, 2012
There is definitely a sense of scale in this shot. Still very clear. Beautiful!
October 13th, 2012
Love the composition of this one =) you make spiders cute!
October 13th, 2012
I like all of the space in this one. Well done.
October 13th, 2012
Great little spider, so tiny in all that space. Thoroughly agree with you on the touchy-feely stuff. You won't get any hugs from me.
October 13th, 2012
Fantastic shot.... and although I do like my space.. I also like to hug and be hugged.... ♥
October 13th, 2012
I like your composition. And wow, it really shows how tiny these spiders are!
October 13th, 2012
Cool colors on this little guy!
October 13th, 2012
Excellent capture and use of empty space. I like the texture of the leaf.
October 13th, 2012
He looks so small against that leaf. Great macro. I like your title, too.
October 13th, 2012
I like the fact that he has claimed the whole leaf even though he is tiny - he is still king of his domain and trespassers have reason to fear him.
October 13th, 2012
Great shot....I love to get an idea of how tiny he is....you must have great eyes and be fine tuned to the movements that show a jumping spider to be able to catch these! Love his eyes!
October 13th, 2012
Great stuff. Lovely.
October 13th, 2012
Even though he is so tiny, his eyes fix you immediately!
October 13th, 2012
Not quite on the edge yet..great picture.. that is the creepy crawler I found on my husband's shirt..I asked him to stand still while I get my camera..not knowing what I was going to take a picture of he stood and waited for my return...later when he saw the picture he asked if I had posioning him in mind. oh yes I posted this picture.
October 14th, 2012
soooo iddy biddy! lovely composition!
October 14th, 2012
A great, big, lots-of-space-for-you, green and quiet "THANK YOU!" to everyone for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. I appreciate your kindness and support. Thank you so much.

October 14th, 2012
Cute itsy bitsy spider!
October 14th, 2012
Great shot :)
October 14th, 2012
Wonderful shot to show the size - you still managed to get those amazing eyes too - know what you mean about the distance thing too...have you ever noticed the movement that goes on when a country person talks to a city person...the city person stands close, then the country person takes a step back, then the city person steps closer again...almost like a slow dance - its quite funny to watch!!
October 15th, 2012
Cute capture!!! I love the spider and the beautiful leaf! :0)
October 15th, 2012
I had a sneeky suspicion that your creatures weren't that scary and big right from the start! Kudos to you for fooling us this well for such a long time :))) What i do not like is when people take liberties with me and my space. I am a hugger (cannot survive otherwise in the Mediterranean!) but only with peole I love otherwise space space space please!
October 15th, 2012
Love the space in this one. Love ALL space....
October 15th, 2012
Love how you composed this. Great use of space. Beautiful green.
