Skunk Cabbage

Symplocarpus foetidus

"Eastern Skunk Cabbage, Clumpfoot Cabbage, Foetid Pothos, Meadow Cabbage, Polecat Weed, Skunk Cabbage, or Swamp Cabbage, commonly known as simply Skunk Cabbage, is a low growing, foul smelling plant that prefers wetlands" and is a favorite of white tailed deer.I was pretty close and didn't smell anything, though.:)
They look beautiful, they don't have an appealing name though.

I've never heard of it. It may stink, but it sure makes for a lovely photo.

Great shot! This brings back memories of traipsing through the woods with my horticulturist/biologist father. It is still one of my favorite things to do!

now how did you find this glorious specimen??? (they don't smell until they're quite bigger and not so pretty... so I don't want to wait until the smell draws me in.)
