The tale of the Swallowtail

What is this butterflies story? How was that "tail " lost? I wonder...

Great close up Hope. Beautiful colors. I've noticed a lot of the Swallowtails have one tail missing. I have some shots I've taken through the years of both the blac ones and the tiger striped with similar damage. there tails must be very susceptible to getting damaged.
