This wollybear caterpillar was on his walk-a-bout ,trying to find a place to spend the fall and winter. We used a leaf to move him safely off the trail and away from the tipsy Oktoberfest revelers!
Do Woolly Bear Caterpillars Forecast Winter Weather?
According to legend, the wider that middle brown section is (i.e., the more brown segments there are), the milder the coming winter will be. Conversely, a narrow brown band is said to predict a harsh winter. But is it true? From the Old Farmers Almanac. Here we call them wooly worms and there's a festival each October where they race them and try to predict the winter's forecast. Nice shot.
