I have a fondness for museums as you may realise. Here you are looking at the new addition to one of the most famous museums in the world. The Natural History Museum in London has millions of pieces. It is said that they don't acutally know how many! However, the new building you are looking at is a late addition to the museum that will house millions more specimins. The aim is to provide vaults that are temperature/humidity controlled so as to preserve the specimins for posterity and in particular to hold a bank of DNA for research and future access by scientists. The Cocoon is a wonderful addition to the museum. Inside you can see the vaults, the cases and there are acutal displays. You can also see scientists carrying out their research. If you come to London dont miss the Natural History Museum.

Great shot. A pal of mine was there in the bug section, and they need that controlled atmosphere - a lot of the specimens had been badly affected in the old storage areas
What interesting architecture. I especially liked your write up about the museum. I'm sorry I missed it the one time I was in London but couldn't fit any more museums into the itinerary. Hopefully next time.
