@jgpittenger That is all motion blur. The shot was taken at f11 and the panning at that point was with the bird doing around 85 miles an hour, kinda difficult to change DoF at that speed and keep the bird in the shot. LOL
@connie865 - Oh yes, he was really moving. Had just come out of a swoop and I had panned in from about 200 feet with him to catch that shot. He was probably doing more than 80miles an hour a that point.
Spectacular capture - I am astounded at the "ho-hum" response of some to this - if you had panned against a "scenic" BG the gasps would be audible - I am disappointed that some think any shot this amazing is always staged or "constructed" artificially (also annoyed that even if it was there is a tendency to belittle the skills that that feat would entail) must Fav - for the consummate skill as well as the awesome content - I would be lucky to spot this with the naked eye - to capture it on camera would be a miracle for me.
@kittikat - Thanks for the positive comments. It is not an easy shot for some to see, but once people realise what's involved they do get it. You can see some of my other bird shots here... http://365project.org/tags/netbirds
