Well done most of you! It was indeed a cheese knife. I have to say that it's one of three. You can just see one of the other handles embedded in the board behind this one. They are all a bizarre shape. I have no idea why this is shaped like this, but my mother says it is for cutting thin slices of parmesan cheese by pushing down on the blade. Parmesan is really hard. I will have to take her word for that.

It is a lovely whisk that is displayed on a lovely piece of cork, which in many cases tends not to be whiskable.
