The Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, stands on the site of the ancient stadium used for the games of the Panathenaea dating from 330 BC. The stadium is constructed completely of marble. It is still the place where the host country of each Olympic Games receives the Olympic flame.
