This is a hip shot - which is not something i like to do. But the corner was crowded and there really wasn't any other way. I seriously debated whether to do this at all, but it has kind of been haunting me all day.
For the one night stand - because advertising is not just about the pretty things in life. At least it wasn't all that cold out today.
I hear you on shooting from the hip, but sometimes it really is the best way to capture a moment for many reasons. Great example of the power of photography
I rank shooting from the hip only slightly better than phone camera candid's, that being said there is a time and a place for everything. This is very cool, I have always and will always defend showing shot's of homeless guys, mainly because of a personal reason. If it makes one person stop and question why will still allow this shit to happen (yes, I appreciate there are many reasons) then it's worth it. The text is spot on as well. Great job on this, fav and all that.
Great shot. It is a sad subject repeated all over the world. Your image speaks volumes yet none of us has the answer. Well done for taking the shot and sharing it with us.
This is so very moving... my heart goes out to this poor soul that doesn't have a roof over his head. Thank you for sharing this. And wonderful words to go with the shot :)
A very sad sight. I love how you have the balls to approach an idea in such a different way to everyone else. The shot itself is amazing, even more so that you took it from the hip xx
by the looks of it, it's a woman. is this on queen street? i took one on the corner of bay and wellington but took me long and hard to decide whether i would post it. obviously i didn't. you got kind of a good stir. would make a great fundraising campaign ad.
Very powerful shot. When I lived in Toronto (coming from California and North Carolina) I always wondered how the homeless survived, and now living in Winnipeg I really don't know!!!!
@jase_h there were fewer and fewer entries towards the end of last year... i was going to put out a thread a week or so ago to see if there was any interest but (a) it was pointed out to me that we already had a bunch of competitions running and prolly didn't need another just now, (b) my in-box was already overloaded (and still is) with responses to the get pushed threads (gak!) and (c) you were back and like, you're the original king of street and i'm still waiting for you to string me up by my toenails for removing the phone camera restriction ;p
@northy That's a shame, guess it struggled from the start to be honest though. And I would never string you up by your toenails, as I don't like feet, especially other peoples so it would prolly be your eyelids :P I actually took and posted a street shot today, first time in months.
@jase_h i dunno... there was a fair bit of uptake in the beginning... and put that down to your edginess... i kind of liked the fact that it remained a small niche and didn't turn into everyone just taking random pictures of people on the street... but it would be nice if there were a few more working on it...
Found this today from "Shot From The Hip" thread. One of my abiding memories of Toronto. Fav, but not really because I want to look at that kind of thing (if you see what I mean).
