Iced Marina by northy

Iced Marina

I'm a bit ambivalent about this image, but as I plan to go back there early tomorrow morning I thought I would post to see if anyone has any suggestions... I think perhaps it is too busy? too many elements?

A second go at the camera setting challenge is in my other album...

I like this...but maybe if the right was clear and it was the tree and the jetty and the clouds?

Beautiful

I like it; the tree and clouds in the distance are striking. No arguing that it is busy though - can you get a shot that focuses in more on the boat docks? The repetition there could be an interesting shot from a different angle.

@nkawoods yup... i took one today and was going to post it, but.... ok, this is going to sound complicated... i really felt the other one had potential and i had several ideas of what i could do better and i'm hoping to get something out of it tomorrow morning... this one i'm not as crazy about, just not sure why... and that's why i chose to post it... clear as mud? ;p

What a gorgeous scene. Great composition and lines.

I love the lighting! It does look busy...keep in mind what it is you want the viewer to see. I had to look hard at the stuff on the right before realizing they are covered boats. (?) I have to agree with the others that the tree, clouds and empty boat slips would simplify and add character to this image. I hope the lighting is this good in the morning! :)
Beautiful tones in this image too!

perhaps a shot from in front of the tree of the line of boat slips at a low vantage point?

Every time I see pictures of snow it makes me sad. I haven't seen the snow in like 5 years and I really want to go find some. This is a gorgeous picture :D

I heard something by Scott Kelby (he is a photog & photoshop guru) a while back, if something makes you stop & go hmmm.. then there is a shot there waiting for you.You need to work all the angles to find it. and I have no doubt you will find it!

@tctime tx TC.. I think you are right ... Not clear what the subject is... :)

Well, I think you should just shout out for them to move the darn boats to clear up your picture!! Seriously all the elements are there for a great shot, but I too think you might have walked over to the left and gotten a great shot with superb dof on the jetty!!

Fav... fab capture

Well every body else beat me to it. Dump the stuff on the right. I do love the light and the desaturated feel

I don't really feel your eye is drawn to any particular point in this shot and I agree about the boats on the right, couldn't determine what they were at first and they don't really add any interest. There is a shot to be had, good luck, hope I haven't spoken out of turn!

lovely shot, but it maybe is a bit to busy! Love how the sun iluminates everything!
January 27th, 2013
I think you need to jump in there and tow those boats out of the way :)

Awesome shot!!! Love this!

Lovely light.
Compositionally, I think it works better when viewed large. In the smaller view, it does feel a little cluttered.

I can see 3 good shots in this: those interesting covered boats and the shiny water in front, the line of docks and the trees in the background. And the light on the snow in the branches of the tree! imho.

Definitely a lot good on. Hmm. Love the tree and its positioning. Also the docks in the ice. Maybe choose one of those?
January 27th, 2013
I think just focusing on the boat docks (the ones without boats) would make a simple and effective composition.

i like the natural light here! :)

A lovely shot...my eye went to the tree first then checked out everything else.

Gorgeous shot! :) I love the huge tree and the deep DOF :) Great with the boats in it as well :) I like all the things I can look at in this one :)

'Cool" shot but i think I would have leaned more towards taking the shot of the frozen docks and not the plastic covered boats on the right. but that is just me.LOVE the clouds in the distance.

Yeah I;m thinking that focus on the tree would be good. But then I'm obsessed by lone trees which maybe isn't healthy. Love the snow colours.

I like how the tree jumps out in the foreground and the repetition of the boats in the marina. Nice one.

I love it but I know exactly that frustration. I have one particular place I have photographed three times and not been able to capture what is in my minds eye. I'm not sure what it is...no boats no tree just the docks?

When I first looked at this I thought that it would be better if it didn't have the boats on the right, but after viewing large I agree with @humphreyhippo that it works much better viewed large.
