Tin Foil Ceiling by onewing

Tin Foil Ceiling

I had an idea today of taking a photo of the ceiling in our local Kmart. It has a rather industrial look and I thought it was interesting. So armed with my camera and my partner in crime, Nicki, we wandered into Kmart to take a couple of photos. While discussing camera settings, up wandered the 14 year old security man/boy/toddler who told us we couldn't take photos in Kmart. Why? asked Nicki and he said he didn't know other than it was company policy. I said "I am only taking a photo of the ceiling, I'm not casing the joint", at which point he didn't know what more to say and wandered off. Probably thought that two pensioner ladies were more scary than a bunch of hoons. I tempted fate and took another couple of photos before deciding that we had probably pushed our luck a bit and we sauntered out of the shop. At least it gave us something to smile about.
Note for Deb here - At least I didn't have my tripod with me!
Wow! What a picture (and shame on you for terrorising the local security! :o))

@steampowered I'm sure he will be fine. At least he should be after a few therapy sessions! Nic and I can be quite scary. Probably laughing at him didn't help!

@onewing The trouble with these jumped up little whippersnappers is that they don't know when to stop. There's one in a store near us who has decided that my wife and I are liquor thieves and whenever we push our trolley into the wine section, he is there hovering around like an expectant father in a maternity ward. I have taken to acting furtively, on purpose. I am just waiting for him to pounce and then there is going to be the mother of all scenes (and father, sister, brother, uncle, cousin once removed, aunty, grandma and granddaddy plus the sister's boyfriend too!)

@steampowered Oh dear and you think I am a terrorist! This lad wasn't really a jumped up whippersnapper though, I think he just drew the short straw and got landed with Nic and myself - probably because he was the youngest and newest staff member I should think, poor lad.

Jo
You don't look like a terrorist to me:))). This is why I use my iPhone camera, no one ever has a clue, it just looks like I'm texting:)))). Great shot, worth being a rebel!!!!!!!! You go girl:))))))))

That turned out really well Babs, who would have thought it was against K Mart policy to take photos in their store. What a giggle!

Love this shot because of what you went through to get it - he probably thought you were a crazy lady wanting to take a photo of the ceiling - who wants to take a photo of a ceiling in KMart? Good on you for standing up for yourself.

@joluise New phone with camera is on my list of impromptu birthdays, but got put on hold just at the moment.
It must be my Yorkshire upbringing and the direct approach is what I seem to go for. Unfortunately, I am a bad influence on Nicki and roped her in too. We certainly had a giggle about it though and that was needed today for both of us. We're going out again together tomorrow taking photos too, so God knows what will happen then. @winnedreamer At least Kmart are getting publicity tonight eh! We'd better not mention yet where we are going tomorrow or we will have to put bags on our heads to stop us being recognised!

@shirleytemple Seemed like a good idea at the time. didn't think it would cause such a disturbance! At least it gave us a laugh. I still think it's an interesting ceiling. I've got a strange brain!!!

This photo of yours has so much more meaning after reading how you obtained it, and today is the first day that i've heard of kmart. Good shot.

@gamelee Thanks Lee. I agree it is the story which made the picture. Kmart is a department store a bit like Woolworths used to be in the UK over 20 years ago. They sell clothes, cosmetics, kitchen appliances books etc. Woolworths here is a supermarket the same as Safeway in the UK or Sainsbury's. We live and learn don't we!

Cool photo, Babs. Great story to go along with it. I'm sure if you were using a camera phone, no one would say anything- funny how people are so nervous about slrs.

@brennan1983 Thanks Brennan. You are probably right about the camera phone, it is on the list of things to buy soon. At least the incident gave Nicki and I a laugh and we didn't get escorted out of the shopping centre like Deb did for taking photos!
