The Beauty Parlour

In Nelson Bay today I spotted this bunch of pelicans preening themselves - well three of them were. The fourth obviously decided that it was beautiful enough!
Lovely shot, Babs. We don't have these wonderful birds in the wild here, although there are some in St James's Park,London.

@steampowered Thanks Paul. They were probably getting ready for a lunch date.

@bugsy @marie65 Thanks. Looking good, but what hard work trying to keep beautiful using a beak like that!

@gypsy6 It's the eyes that gives it away!

@joluise The one sitting down is probably the male and I suspect he is thinking - Women!

@gamelee Thanks Lee. Pelicans are very common in this area probably a bit like seagulls are in the UK.

Lovely shot of these fascinating birds.

@wordpixman I haven't seen the St James's ones recently, not since the Olympics butchered the park. Must make a fuller search next time I am up that way.

Great contrast of colors

Great shot Babs, not easy preening with that huge beak.

@brennan1983 Thanks Brennan. @winnedreamer I don't know how they manage it with those beaks! @rhos Thanks Ann. You always get lots of pelicans here especially when the fishermen are around. @turning_40 Yes, probably getting ready for lunch at Little Beach. that's where the fishermen gut the fish they have caught and they give away the rubbish to the pelicans.
