Currawong

My favourite bird and his mate came to call at lunch time today. I just love currawong's. This one and his mate are getting very tame and I feed them raw mince. They come into our garden to eat berries from one of our trees, but they do like mince too.

Unfortunately, the lorikeets got a bit bossy with them and shooed them off, which surprises me because currawongs are huge compared to lorikeets.

You'd think with a beak this size they would be a lot braver than they are.
Wow...this looks like an intense stare. Nice capture.

Great pose he's got. I agree - why aren't those lorikeets afraid of that beak!

Lovely capture! I think he's posed for you, Babs!

Terrific shot! You are so lucky but then again if someone was giving me free meals, I would probably hang around their gardens too!

@brennan1983 Thanks Brennan. I think he was a bit nervous until his friend came along too.

@goosemanning Thanks Sharon. The lorikeets chase everything off in our garden, they are very bossy. I guess they must have little brains and aren't intimidated by the currawong's beak.

@rhos Thanks Ann. He did pose, he was waiting for me to feed him!! He is getting very tame. We had one last year who took food from your hand. Not got that brave with this one yet, he is still a bit nervous and the size of that beak is a bit scary when it's too close.

@steampowered We seem to feed everything here. Lorikeets, kookaburras, magpies, crested pigeons, yellow faced honey eaters, noisy miners, rosellas. You name it they come round here. The other day when I took a photo of a huge huntsman spider for my 365. David said 'We're not feeding that too are we'?

@onewing Tee hee! I wouldn't put it past you! ;o)) So glad to see that you have bounced back. The day wouldn't be the same without a cheery comment from you.

very beautiful photo Babs

terrific shot! love it! I miss having lots of birds around as we did when we lived on the Mid north coast. There seems to be a shortage of them here, though we do hear the rainbow lorikeets. Your photo is beautifully clear and well composed!

They do have impressive beaks and should be much tougher I agree. I love their singing, much nicer than the magpies. I must try and encourage the ones we get.

I love the song of the currawongs and you are right, much nicer than magpies

@gerry Thanks Gerry.

@angelat Thanks Angela. We do get a variety of birds here I am pleased to say.

@joluise @dekky740 They really aren't as tough as they look are they. Well the ones here aren't. They are quite woosy really. I love their singing too. As you say nicer than the magpies. The maggies here sound like squeaky see saws!!

Fabulous shot of the Currawong Babs, we only get lorikeets and noisy minors in our garden and snakes!

@elaine55 Thanks Elaine, we do pretty well for birds here. No snakes in the garden though!!! We do get a few blue tongue lizards in summer and one which has been living here for 12 years. It is now hibernating under our log shed.

@gamelee Thanks Lee. The eye is brilliant, I love it too. They are beautiful birds.

@onewing we have a blue tongue under our deck, still have some little skinks running around which can often be found in the house.
