Today we have been out with our photo club to the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby. Had a great day and although it was a bit on the chilly side, the sun shone all day and it only started to rain as we were almost home.
This picture is of a komodo dragon (I think)! help me out here Annie @annied I am sure you will tell me if I am wrong.
I was told what her name was too by her keeper and of course, I have forgotten now. Can you help me out with her name too Annie. I am sure you have met her on more than one occasion.
You can put my memory loss down to not enough cups of tea today. I am slowly catching up with cuppa's tonight though, so the memory should come back again pretty soon, once I have got over the withdrawal symptoms.
I have never been there is it worth a visit. Also I am coming up to Newcastle on Wednesday and it the others coming with allow I thought about seeing the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit, is it in the Art Gallery.
Great capture. Yes, it has that Mona Lisa perspective in that wherever you move, it is still looking at you - have been swaying around my computer screen - trust me!
@elaine55 Yes the Australian Reptile Park is well worth a visit. We had a great day. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is at the Newcastle Regional Library which is next door to the Art Gallery on Laman Street. It is in the Lovett Gallery in the library which is on the second floor I think. Just googled it http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/services/newcastle_library/exhibitions
This is a brilliant image of the Komodo Dragon Babs - I am not sure of her name but will find out if I can - I love them - such cool reptiles - I am wondering where they will keep it when it is fully grown
@elaine55 Sorry, I forgot to say thanks for the fav and lovely comment too Elaine. Have a great time in Newcastle and let me know what you think of the exhibition. I thought last years was better and also I thought some of the commended's were better than the winners too.
@onewing You can never tell with judging we thought the same in the Exhibition my friend and I were in which finished today. There were so many amazing photos so I suppose it was hard to choose, 3 judges judged the competition.
Amazing capture on this most certainly Komodo Dragon! I love these guys! Your clarity is amazing!
Now the Australian Reptile Park hey? I love that place! I cant count how many times I have been there, last time I went was last year! It's only a short drive from where I live so we go there often! I remember last time I went with my best friend a couple of keepers asked us if we could mind some Tasmanian devil pups while they quickly went and did something somewhere else. It was amazing! They were so on leashes and were like playful puppies! The whole time we were talking about how we could take them home without raising suspicion! :)
Super shot Babs --so much detail -- especially the scales and eye . Nice to be back -- but not in full swing yet esp. with my commenting - but have had pleasure in viewing all your photos !
I think I saw once where a Komodo dragon in a zoo bit the leg of Sharon Stone's (actress) boyfriend. Ouch! They are pretty aggressive I think. This is an amazing shot!
@creampuff@paulaw@kwiksilver@pittcj17@macromover@april16@golftragic Thanks so much for your comments and favs. I was really lucky with this photo as the handler had just picked up this lady. quite an achievement as she is huge and her claws could cause quite some damage. There were lots of kids around as it was the last day of school holidays, so to get a photo without kids in the picture wasn't easy.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments and favs. She really is a beauty. I hadn't noticed until Ethel mentioned it, but her eye does follow you round the screen.
Thanks Jane. I was standing right next to her, her keeper was holding her and then out her down on the ground and attached a lead to the harness she was wearing. A bit different to walking your dog eh. She was very comfortable with people all around her though and was very well behaved.
Thanks so much for putting this picture on the Popular Page.
