Off to do sandboarding

The grandchildren had a fantastic day today, first we all had a ride on a camel at Birubi Beach (I have lived in this area 17 years and this is the first time I have been on a camel) and then David, Will, Deb and Archie trekked over the dunes to do some sand boarding.

I took this photo from the top of the surf club with lots and lots of zoom. I think it just shows the vastness of the dunes at Birubi.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments on my photos yesterday and as you know not much time for commenting at the moment with family here.

@net @thistle Thanks so much. The dunes go from Anna Bay all the way to Newcastle. About 22 miles of dunes apparently. Much longer by road to Newcastle, but easier on the legs.

@derekvickers Thanks Derek, this is my husband, daughter and grandchildren. The kids came home covered in sand after sand boarding and rolling down the dunes.

September 22nd, 2014
Awesome dunes...what love to go sandboarding.
September 22nd, 2014
That looks like it could be great fun. Love your composition. The figures lend some scale to the height of the dune.
September 22nd, 2014
@golftragic Thanks Marnie. Birubi is my favourite beach here and the dunes go all the way from Anna Bay to Newcastle.

Wow - camels and sand - who needs Egypt. See any pyramids?
September 22nd, 2014
@onewing Bloomin' heck, better watch out for people with funny black and white flags with that much sand. Tony would love to be right for a change.
September 23rd, 2014
@pcoulson Ha ha, know what you mean about the knees. I did a trek over these dunes to Tin City a while ago and that cured me. ( about 6 km each way)
September 23rd, 2014
@lpot1985 @kathiecb Thanks the dunes are fantastic, they are over 1 km wide in places and are over a distance of 32 km from Anna Bay to Stockton in Newcastle. Some of the dunes are over 30 metres high.
September 23rd, 2014
@onewing Another place we share in common, Stockon is just down the road from Newcastle here too
September 23rd, 2014
Great shot! The figures in the foreground really give a sense of the scale of the dune! I have only seen these from a plane coming in to land - this makes it look a lot bigger!
September 24th, 2014
THis looks so much like the dunes we have on the Oregon Coast ...I guess they probably all look alike...hahah. Grea pov and shot.
