Stockton Ferry by onewing

Stockton Ferry

It is a very wild and cold day here today so here is another photo taken from the Queens Wharf Tower on Sunday.

Here you can see the ferry boat at the wharf that goes from Newcastle to Stockton every half an hour.

I wouldn't fancy being at the top of this tower today. It was swaying in the breeze on Sunday so goodness knows how much movement there would be today as the wind is pretty wild.
Nice shot of the ferry Babs. You must have climbed the tower. Has the glass been replaced in the observation tower at the top. Council told me they'd cleaned the structure and put new glass in.

@susiangelgirl Not sure if it has been replaced, it was pretty scratched which is why I took my photos from the lower levels.

Another unusual composition the rail works very well draws the eye into the image on two levels, very creative Babs:)

A nice shot of the ferry -- but the bars annoy me as I duck and stretch my neck to see below and above them -- I must be different Babs !! lol !

I googled the map up to see where this ferry was acrptually going, just across the river to the other side but a great saving in travel time, a heck of a long way round by road!

Lovely shot

It sounds a scary tower & I'm not fond of small boats so I guess I'd be by the wood burner!!

Really like how you have framed this

I always have to look twice when you mention Stockton or Newcastle. My Dad was born in Newcastle (UK) and I lived and worked near Stockton (UK) for three years. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

It looks very lovely on this day anyway... What is the large building towards the back of the picture please Babs? and is that built on the sea as well - like the middle stretch is?

At least the sun is out!
July 6th, 2016
Great shot, Babs.
July 6th, 2016
I love the sunlight dancing on the water :)

@beryl ha ha, mind you don't bang your head while you are ducking between the rails Beryl.

@happypat Yes it does save time going by ferry. The ferry only takes about 5 minutes to cross to Stockton and many people park at Stockton and take the ferry to work in Newcastle centre. Free parking at Stockton and only costs about $2 for the ferry.

@busylady Glad I brought back good memories Judith. We have lots of places here named after their UK counterparts.

@stephanies The large building towards the back are the grain silos at Carrington and the area that juts out is just the peninsula sticking out into Newcastle harbour.
If you look at the map you can see Wharf Road where the tower is and across to Carrington. https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Newcastle+NSW+2300/@-32.922056,151.7839301,14z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x6b7314688ef5ea75:0x5017d6816333f40!8m2!3d-32.928333!4d151.781667
