I am posting a bit early today because we are out for dinner and photo club this evening.
The Hunter Valley Steamfest Great Train Race this year featured steam engines 3642 and 3016 running parallel together whilst racing a Tiger Moth aeroplane. The journey starts at Broadmeadow and races to Maitland.
This year the Tiger Moth aeroplane won the race with steam engine 3642 winning the race between the engines and 3016 the runner up.
I will post photos of the two trains over the next couple of days and other photos from the Steamfest over the next couple of weeks.
LOVE Tiger Moths! One flew over the motorway the other day as I was driving by Duxford - a big aviation museum in Cambridgeshire. I always find it a thrill to watch trains or planes or ships, so I shall be looking forward to your Steamfest pictures.
Lovely capture Babs, the Tiger Moths detail and yellow training colours standing out well against the blue sky, looks good for an aircraft some 77 years old:)
@rjb71@365projectorgsebgritt@princessm Thanks. Richard and Sebastian. Definitely not a nanny state as Decima seems to think. No air traffic control on a Sunday in our part of the world, you just have to rely on visual. That is why New Zealand aircraft won't fly into Newcastle Airport at the weekend because there is no air traffic there either. Our pilots are made of tough stuff.
@gigiflower It is a beauty I agree. I think the pilot was pleased he won the race, he did a couple of circuits around the railway station before leaving
@Casablanca It was a great day, but I must admit I was steam trained out by the end of Sunday though. We rode on a steam train from Maitland to Branxton and back in the afternoon, so it was nice to sit down for a while.
@maggiemae Thank you Maggie. David and I belonged to our photo club for a few years, but I haven't been much this year so far. Too many other things on the go at the moment. David was always the photographer in our family and I only took up the hobby 6 years ago, so I am quite a newbie
The Tiger Moth is one of my husband's favourites. You got a great shot of this one. I can even see the propeller spinning. Wonderful bright colour in that blue sky. Must have been an awesome sight.
