Brush Tailed Possum by onewing

Brush Tailed Possum

Another filler today because I am a bit limited on time to take photos at the moment.

David took this photo of a brush tailed possum just over a week ago when we were at Treescape near One Mile Beach. We were there with a group of people looking to see how many possums we could spot at night. We found about 10 which was quite good considering just how dark it was. They aren't easy to find in darkness.

We were hoping to see some sugar gliders too, but didn't have any luck on that score.

This photo was taken by shining a Cree LED red torch on the possum. Red torch light doesn't hurt their eyes and it makes them easier to spot in darkness. I decided to convert it to black and white because the red light made it look quite strange.
A great find and capture Babs , hope you are both doing good !

I hope David is feeling much better today. I felt so bad as Possums here are pests and suffered so much all because some one brought them into the country.

@hermann Thanks Sal, yes we are fine. Will email you soon. I am feeling rather drained at the moment after events of the last couple of months.

Interesting to see this possumin the tree, I am sorry to say I have only seen a possum dead on the road. These possums sound a bit more special than the everyday possum you see in NZ. Brush tailed must have extra cudos perhaps!

Very nicely done :)

To see this little fella in the dark,David must have good eyesight - even with the use of the red-light torch.. for me the b&w processing works very well, after all, it is night-time and dark..
sending warm hugs to both..

Good shot! I've heard a lot about using red light for night photography. Even for human eyes it's supposed to be better. I hope your schedule and health issues slow down for a while- you're a real trooper keeping up the way you do!

Great shot Babs/David. I've never tried red light for night shots, must keep it in mind.

@beryl @yaorenliu @sangwann @sarahlth @hermann @helenhall @mittens @carolmw @craftymeg @casablanca @happypat @paul10 @jorlam @radiogirl @rjb71 @kwind @olivetreeann @jessikapanteleios @golftragic @taffy @gaylewood Thanks. sorry for the group reply again, but I dared to go out today to do grocery shopping and left David on his own. Luckily he behaved himself today and was fine when I got home again.
This shot is slightly blurred, but it was taken hand held and in total darkness apart from the red light torch.
