Tanifa O Tagaloa by onewing

Tanifa O Tagaloa

This sculpture is one of the many sculptures in the grounds of the Lake Macquarie Art Gallery.

Samoan artist Fatu Feu'u has established an international reputation as the 'father' of Pacific Island art in New Zealand.

Feu'u's philosophy is to actively pass on his extensive knowledge of traditional skills. As part of the 2003 Lake's Edge project, he invited members of the local Samoan community to join him in making this totem. Tanifa O Tagaloa is the offspring of Tagaloa, the Polynesian creation god, and possesses a tail much like the fish that swim from Eastern Polynesia to the coast of Australia.

Artists who actively pursue sharing their skills so others can learn are so great. This is an interesting sculpture and great commentary!

After our really hot weather we had a terrific electrical storm last night with hail the size of golf balls and today it looks like the wreck of the Hesperus in our garden. Leaves and branches are everywhere and we have got a huge clean up job ahead. The sun is shining again and I hope it doesn't get too hot while we are clearing up the mess.
Hope the damage to your house Nicole isn't too difficult to fix. @nicolecampbell

Scary fella isn't he? Sorry to hear you've been hit with such violent weather, do hope no damage to your house or car. We've had really cold wild weather this weekend thanks to a series of fronts from the Antarctic but no damage so far and I think the worst has passed.

@golftragic Both cars and house seem to be okay, but the garden is a mess. We are trying to sweep up some of the mess at the moment, but still very windy and it is all blowing back again. We have a few branches from our trees down and one just fell next to where David was chopping one branch this morning. He has moved away from that area now to a safer spot. It would spoil his day if that branch landed on him.

You should have seen the hail it was banked up against the house. No windows broken though.

Still 27 degrees here today and clear blue skies.

Oh well back to sweeping.
