Berrima Triptych by onewing

Berrima Triptych

The three photos in this triptych at Berrima are of

1 The Courthouse

2 Berrima Correctional Centre

3) The Governor's Residence

Berrima Correctional Centre re-opened in 2017 and now houses 75 female prisoners.

I nearly ended up joining them because if you look closely at the centre photo you can see the large red door of the prison. I walked up to it to take a close up photo of the door just as one of the correctional officers was entering. He told me that I shouldn't be too close as I was on Government property. There was no barrier to stop me walking up to the door but I just said 'sorry' and had a bit of a chat to him (after taking the photo of course). He did offer to give me a bed for the night, but I declined.

The Governor's garden was being mowed by two female prisoners and a corrections officer but I didn't take a photo of them. Didn't want to push my luck, ha ha.

Another photo taken at Berrima is here filling in one of the gaps.

Like the story and love the collage. I must have passed you somewhere along the way as I've just got back from those parts; went through Goulburn on the way from the coast to Hill End, Sofala, Gulgong, before heading back home through Maitland.

Oops, nice story to go with the shots.

Looks too nice to be a prison. They must be minimum security risk prisoners, I don’t see any real barriers!
October 25th, 2018
they all look very familiar. I always think there should be lots to shoot at Berrima and then I struggle!

Beautiful buildings.

@girlie Like ships that pass in the night.
October 25th, 2018
@pusspup I think I have just about photographed everything in Berrima at some time or other over the years so I struggle now too.

@777margo @beryl @pcoulson @susie1205 @sangwann @hermann @inthecloud5 @jennywren @louannwarren @claudiet It is a minimum security prison for female offenders. Tomorrow I will post a photo of Goulburn Correctional Centre, that one is a maximum security prison. I have read a couple of books about people who are in Goulburn supermax, Ivan Milat and Lindsay Rose so wanted to see what it looked like. You will see tomorrow.

October 25th, 2018
Great story and collage!
October 25th, 2018
Yes I expect the camera is rather an unwelcome thing round there, you should have said yes to the bed, not many have slept in a prison willingly!
October 25th, 2018
@mittens Not so inviting if you are on the wrong side of the law though I suppose.

@casablanca @samae @happypat Maybe I could have taken him up on the offer, but we were travelling on to Gouldburn that day and I wanted to make sure I got to the Steampunk Festival on Saturday. I don't mind prisons from the outside but I can't even visit Maitland Jail which is now closed as a prison and you can to there on a day visit. It gives me the shivers. I think I must have been locked up in a previous life.

Great story - we once went to the old Freemantle prison with family and I have a great photo of hubby pleading to 'get out' - fortunately no longer a maintained prison.
