@rookynook there were lots of them at Coffs Harbour.
@777margo yes i can see why it is called parrots beak and crab claw too
@julzmaioro yes me too. I have got some more mystery flowers that I saw while we were away too and I will post them over the weekend. Maybe you can help me identify them. No pressure ha ha
It's ironic that you and Margo @777margo posted photos of this beautiful flower that I've never heard of. I really like your close up. It does look like a lobster claw.
@pusspup When I was taking a photo of it somebody said it was a banana flower and the leaves do look rather banana plantlike too. When I looked it up I notice that it is called lots of different names from false bird of paradise, parrots beak, crabs claw and a few other names too.
@henrir Yes, what are the chances, ha ha. I have never even seen one of these plants on 365 before and then Margo and I post a photo of it on the same day.
@quietpurplehaze When I looked it up I see that it seems to have lots of names.
I was going to say it reminded me of a lobster claw, striking colours. FYI - we are looking at temps in the mid 30s for the next two weeks, hope it isn't too hot when you visit.
For some year I too thought these were banana flowers Babs. Then, when I went to visit my son and family, then in the Philippines I was reliably informed that it was a heliconia.
Mine are flowering at the moment too. They are often in flower at Christmas but they were a little late this year with only a few in flower. Nice pic Babs.
@nicolecampbell I think we should be okay. It is a dry heat in Canberra and that isn't as bad as the humidity here in Jan and Feb. We are on a U3A bus tour so should be in air conditioning a lot of the time. Every time we go to Canberra in summer it is hot, so nothing new.
@golftragic When I was photographing this flower somebody said they thought it was a banana flower so you are not the only one who thought that. I am discovering that many flowers seem to have so many different common names.
@bella_ss They are lovely, I have never seen them before.
