I have been out most of the day today and this afternoon I took Elizabeth to the cinema. I think she enjoyed the movie and we went for a cuppa afterwards.
I collected her from the care home and have just returned her in time for dinner.
I doubt she will remember where she has been because she has Alzheimer's but at least she had a nice time in the moment.
As long as I keep her on subjects that happened a long time ago she is fine and her memory is really good, but ask her what happened half an hour ago and she wouldn't have a clue. She is such a jolly person though and I do try to make her laugh. We always have a lovely time together when I take her out and that is the main thing.
Here is another photo from the butterfly house, and according to the information sheet we were given, I believe this is a male cruiser butterfly. I love the two dots on his wing, they look like eyes and if you look carefully you can see heart shapes too, perfect for valentine month.
With eyes like those this has to be a female, then she can flap her wings and flutter her eyes at some poor unsuspecting male as he flies by😂. Nice sharp image btw:)
A delightful shot of this butterfly Babs , and such a compassionate act of kindness to take your friend out and enrich her life by keeping the past alive for her . Such a horrible disease .
Another beautiful specimen. He looks almost like he is wooden with the detail of the inside of bark. Such a lovely thing to do for your friend. It is a cruel cruel disease. I have a friend whose husband has it - he can just about remember her at the moment. So sad!
I enjoy taking Elizabeth out. Both Elizabeth and John were in Regis Care Home since last April until John died last July of a brain tumour. They have been friends for years and John was in the RAF the same as David so they always had lots in common. Since John died Elizabeth has been very confused, but now she is settling more. Her daughter Christine lives in Sydney and has three children so a few of J & E's friends try to take Elizabeth out or visit regularly to give Christine a bit of a break. She is a lovely lady and has lots of stories of her interesting life to tell. It is just her short term memory at the moment that is the problem. Of course, that will get worse but while she still enjoys her outings and visits I will take her out. She has some lovely room-mates now at Regis and I chat to them too when I visit, I don't think the other ladies there have such a great social life as Elizabeth does and their eyes always light up when I chat to them.
@casablanca Thanks, he does look like crumpled brown paper doesn't he.
I am still feeling a bit flat, but Elizabeth and I had a lovely outing and we met up with another friend for a cuppa after the movie.
The markings are wonderful on this specimen. Very arty butterfly and a lovely shot.
You are such a faithful friend to Elizabeth. Im sure it must be very much appreciated - even if just in the present moments. She is a lucky lady to have you care for her so much.
The butterfly is beautiful. I love the changing details all over its wings. The color of the butterfly stands out so beautifully against the greenery.
I think its wonderful that you take Elizabeth out for adventures. She may not know or remember where you have been, but the companionship is so important. My grandfather had alzheimers and even though he didnt know what we were doing or where we were going, he used to tell me over and over again how much fun he was having. That little bit means a lot to them in that instant. ❤
Excellent shot- the detail you captured on his eyes is fantastic too. It's wonderful that you can entertain Elizabeth- she may not remember the details but she will always remember that someone loves her.
