New Newcastle by onewing

New Newcastle

Yesterday I posted a photo of Old Newcastle and here is a photo new Newcastle.

This is the new courthouse completed in 2017. The original courthouse was built in 1892 and is now a heritage listed building.

I did want to go inside to take photos but there is a sign saying 'no photography' which is a shame.

If you look closely there is a chap standing outside the courthouse leaning on the lamppost, he had a huge camera in his hand so there must have been a case being heard and he was waiting for the people concerned to come outside. Obviously it wasn't a high profile case because he was the only chap waiting.
Boo
ooh love all those lines!

Lovely building with great lines and patterns.

Very modern and very cubic. An interesting contrast to yesterday’s photo.

Very modern architecture - has a beauty of its own though, for me, it is not comparable to that of listed buildings. If there was an important case the place would be full of photographers and camera crews so I suppose he was a lone photographer: perhaps a 365er too.

I’m sure this building is more efficient in design and operation, but oh I love old buildings the best.

It's so refreshing to see modern architecture that has some style :)

Looks like three separate building styles without a sense of unity . I like two out of the three though. At least it has interest.

I often find I simply "don't get" modern architecture. I yearn for the grandness of beauty and design of previous generations. This is interesting but I don't think I like the building. Photo is fine though!

I like to see the old buildings Babs, I wonder if these buildings will still be standing as long as the old ones. Great capture.
May 15th, 2019
Very modern. I think I prefer the older buildings!

Interesting architecture

What a contrast Babs. I rather like the lines on these buildings and the mix of textures and colours too.
May 16th, 2019
It has interesting colors and textures but I think it lacks the personality of the older buildings. Maybe this fellow has the scoop on something that no one else does. Hard to say! Good shot.

Great looking building!!

@casablanca They went even crazier with the new university building just a few doors along from the court

@huvesaker @happysnaps @ludwigsdiana @susiemc @sangwann @beryl @leestevo @kjarn @gilbertwood @louannwarren @merrelyn @helenhall @mittens @craftymeg @jacqbb @carolmw @tonygig @peadar @loweygrace @yaorenliu @happypat @angelar @sugarmuser @robz @seattlite @pyrrhula @danette @golftragic @olivetreeann @kwind Thanks. There are a lot of changes happening in Newcastle at the moment, but I am glad to see a lot of the old buildings are still standing.
I have to admit that this building does look much nicer than some of the concrete high rise apartments they are building in the centre of Newcastle. Those buildings are just plain boring. I wonder what people will think of them in 150 years time.

@peterday I did stay well clear. Not game enough to go in there with my camera, not on an empty stomach anyway, I took this photo just before we had lunch.
May 16th, 2019
What contrasting architectural styles across the two images!
May 16th, 2019
Very modern architecture, but I like the old one.
May 16th, 2019
I can't decide whether I like the architecture of this building or not. I keep going back to it though so it's made an impression. Lots of straight lines and angles which you've captured so well.
May 16th, 2019
@taffy @haskar @flowerfairyann I love the old buildings in Newcastle, but I have to admit I quite like this one too. It is nice to see the contrast between the old and new next to each other. The only new buildings I don't like are the boring high rise apartments they have built.
