I have been out all day today with friends and we must have walked miles. I have just got home so haven't had chance yet to look at the photos taken today, so here is another photo from Newcastle last Saturday.
Here you can see Newcastle Ocean Baths taken from Fort Scratchley. If you look closely you can just about see two brave souls walking along the edge of one of the pools just about to take a dip in the freezing water.
@pusspup wise move to wait till summer for a swim, it must have been freezing in the water.
Newcastle baths and Merewether baths had makeovers recently and look very smart now.
@angelar I think the people swimming in it were pretty blue too, it looks sunny but the water must have been freezing.
@robz The Newcastle ocean baths, the Bogey Hole and the Merewether ocean baths are very popular all year round.
@louannwarren Yes I know, they must have been mad. When we walked down to the baths we did see a couple of people swimming wearing wet suits, they were the sensible ones.
@sangwann We do have lots of nasties in our ocean so much safer to swim in the ocean pools.
@jacqbb Yes the high seas clear out the pool but just in case it is drained and refilled once a week anyway.
@cutekitty Yes the building is Art Deco. The ocean baths was built in 1922 and has had a few makeovers since then. The last one was a couple of years ago which is why it looks so good at the moment.
Lovely perspective colour and light Babs, swimming not for the faint hearted at this time of year then, hence the cars parked but no sign of activity in the pool:)
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. Always lots of cars parked around here. There were quite a few surfers further along the beach and people fishing too. Plus the more saner people were just enjoying the sunshine in the many cafes along this stretch of the coast.
@ludwigsdiana Thanks Diana, it was a very busy day for the tugs and the marine pilot. Ships sere coming and going from the harbour all day.
@fishers Indeed it would be chilly in there Ian. Even though the temperature is around 16-18 degrees at the moment the wind off the ocean is rather chilling and the ocean cold.
@casablanca Indeed, not too many skinny dippers that day.
@helenhall It was a busy day for the bulk carriers. A lot of traffic going in and out of the harbour all day long. Great to watch the ships being steered out of the harbour by the marine pilot and the tugs.
@nicolecampbell I am sure you have taken lots of photos of Newcastle over the years. It is a photographers paradise, I love it.
This is a great example of how looks can be deceiving! My mind sees the sunny day and equates it with summer! But I know you are in winter now. Nice shot.

@merrelyn @seattlite @carolmw @shailestha Thanks, I feel it is a bit too chilly to swim here at the moment, but it is so busy in summer.
