Mating dragonfly's

I show Mark my photo of the mating dragonflies.
'Dragonflies, you're sure? Aren't they damselflies?'
I look on google, compared a dragon fly to a damsel fly. It is not a dragon and not a damsel, it's a crane fly, I think.
Yes, crane flies making more crane flies!

Mooie opname. Weet niets van libellen enz. maar dit zijn langpootmuggen (volgens mij).

We call them daddy long legs! I suppose they don't need to worry what each other look like :)

Whatever they're called this is certainly a close-up look at their mating activity.

Wow, x-rated insect pictures! You're right about your search, I had to do the same thing once with Google. They can even fly this way "while" mating! I saw a program once where aeronautical engineers study Dragonflies in flight because of the wing structure and the ability to fly at such strange angles and positions.

Cool find. I like the camouflage on their wings

@mikegifford haha! They were cavorting above the grass and I was following them until they landed on the teasel leaves. Must have been a very interesting programme to have seen.

@overalvandaan Ha Ha...same here...I felt like a cheap insect pervert crawling/running around trying to get a picture! The program I watched had them in a plastic container that was rather large and very high speed video cameras on some of the perimeter sides. When filmed at high speed the observers could then playback and watch the wing motion and shoulder joints. Very neat looking in slow motion.
