Trying to think in black and white, I realized that I was looking for light and shadows. That led me to the trees that line the road. My neighbor planted these as seedlings about 13 years ago.
One part of my mind resists the B&W like I'd resist turning off the internet and going back to my manual typewriter and white out. Another is enjoying the fact that things really do look different this way and the things you focus on change.
Beautiful. B&W gets rid of distracting color elements, but sometimes you'll get distracting contrast elements, e.g., birds in a leafy tree where everything is in focus.
I started out using alot of b&w and sepia ... as your photo shows so beautifully, one has to rely alot on light and shadow. You did that here and captured this beautifully, Dixie! I rarely achieved this kind of composition. Your pov is right on the mark. This is wonderful.
yes, i think a successful b&w shot is mostly dependent on light and shadows. in this one week assignment, i look around for a subject to shoot and the brain is thinking black and white. you become selective and instinctive for the proper shots. this is a good play on light and shadows and the grey tones do show very well. excellent shot, dixie.
