Heart of mooncakes by pandorasecho

Heart of mooncakes

I love mooncakes and they are only available around the mid autumn festival time. They are sweet, bean paste or lotus seed paste in a ball, wrapped in pie crust then molded in a mold and baked.

My same shape was a heart but I wanted to show the cakes so I just made what I wanted work.
Nice food photo. The moon cakes look and sound delicious. I have only had these described to me, but have never eaten on.

Oooh, great shot of mooncakes! Enjoy them! 8)

We bought our mooncakes last week. I like traditional mooncakes, filled with lotus seed paste and a salted egg yolk. But sometimes I go for the snow skin variety. The snow skin ones have all sorts of flavors. Most common ones being the fruits like mango, durian, lychee, tangerine etc. The uncommon flavors run the gamut from coffee and champagne truffle to bird's nest. (I had the Bailey's flavored ones! XD ) Also there's the Teochew version of mooncake with a fried, super flaky skin and a soft yam filling. I think I'm making myself hungry now! 8D~

The first time I had them I was a student in Beijing in 1987. I was so in love with them and when the seson passed I couldn't believe I couldn't find them anywhere. Then it took years before I learned where to get them here in the states. Amazon has them even but they are EXPENSIVE! I bought a mold and found some recipes but never tried it.

anyone with an overactive imagination like me, this right away formed a heart shape even without looking at your caption. you made a yummy heart and i'm off to chinatown to get my mooncake. p.s.: i enjoy the mooncake all year round as there's a common variety that i like which is called here the lotus crisp, lotus paste wrapped in layers of fine dough. there are other kinds like red bean paste and mincemeat. @myautofocuslife i'm hungry now, too!
