On November 16, 1994 - Judge Weir signed a set of papers and turned to my husband and I and our 6 month old son and said "Hello Mom and Dad" but even though he thought he had the power, we had been Austin's parents since before he was born when this woman chose us to adopt our son.
Now we have always celebrated Adoption Day on November 16, but I just found out that "National adoption Day is the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year and has seen 400,000 kids move from foster care to permanent homes
So my thankful4 list has other people I am thankful for on Saturdays. PERFECT to tell you how much I treasure Austin's birth Mom and Sisters and the way they have expanded our family but never threatened his security that he is loved and wanted by all of us.
NO, I DID NOT TAKE THIS PICTURE< IT WAS WHEN MY SON FLEW OUT OF STATE TO MEET THEM
A beautiful shot! Beautiful people. Your son is adorable. It's so wonderful to have a day that's such a blessing and right before Thanksgiving, Perfect! :-)
Great story! I had wanted to adopt a child- a daughter- after our two sons were born, but Jeff never felt he could afford to support another child, so my hopes sort of dwindled after that. But now we have a "unofficially" adopted children in our lives and that's been sort of nice. I am in admiration of people who adopt and don't feel it's any different emotionally than birthing a child yourself. Hats off to both the adopters and the adoptees!
