Nadine

When my boys were babies, we got the amazing luck of finding Grandma Nadine. She did a daycare for preschoolers in her home and she loves babies and all the baby stuff. She wanted them in cloth diapers because she loved hanging clean diapers on the clothesline. She wanted them to help her in the garden so they learned to love things like broccoli stalks. She got them to try food by lying to them -" oh this is alligator, this is rattlesnake and this is that loud screaming peacock from next door." So they all became storytellers with great imaginations. She made us all family so even though our blood relatives were 1300 miles away, my boys grew up with grandparents and cousins in this town and family traditions with these friend/family people that have lasted even though the babies are now in college. She says, "When the Goode's adopted Austin, I adopted the Goode's"
Thank you so much for sharing this with us, what a true blessing she is to you, and I am sure you were a blessing to her... Are there people like this anymore???? I am sure there are, but I sure like to hear about them more.

@sarasdadandmom I think you are a person like this - and Nadine, she is 83 and volunteers at a local grade school 5 days a week as a grandparent-in-the-classroom even though she doesn't drive anymore and she doesn't run her daycare

It's wonderful to have "adopted" family like that- or as Jeff and I are finding out- it's fun to "adopt" people to be part of ours!

I just think this is the most wonderful story!! Grandma Nadine had the right idea. I agree with Terry 100% ... wish there were more "old fashioned" people like this today to inspire our children. Wonderful collage of family memories.

grateful for all grandma nadines and i salute them. i grew up without my own grandma and jealous of those who had one. i enjoyed being grandma to our two boys because they liked to hear exciting stories. with the younger two i'm not allowed to tell or make up stories; that they should grow up knowing the truth. but when they're not around, i still do and the boy would listen intently, even the little toddler would, and just like normal children he'd say, "again! tell the story again!" i like to tell children about the truth, but i also believe that children should have child-size problems and that their creative minds should be nurtured.
