I started the first day of November using the picture of my brother and I as "I am Thankful for the tradition of adoption" and now I looked for things for, "I am Thankful to be me" and realized that for every picture of me, foe all the ages and places I have been, there is some core something that I recognize and that unchanging element must be who I really am, and I like that person. Dixie chooses to be kind most of the time, loves stories and art and being creative; values people above things; looks for the beautiful parts of the world so the ugly and scary ones never convince me that that is all there is.
“Perhaps the most "spiritual" thing any of us can do is simply to look through our own eyes, see with eyes of wholeness, and act with integrity and kindness.”

Today was a strange day. My best friend since high school has a daughter who is only 3 days older than my son. She started college this year too, and on Fridays usually sits front Row center in the class taught by her advisor at Casper College in Wyoming. Her alarm did not go off and she woke late, to the dorms being locked down and the discovery that the teacher and someone else were dead in an arrack in her class, and later that another person was dead in a related incident off campus. One of those moments when you realize how fragile everything is and give thanks for a kid skipping school
@cimes1@gnilrets@mittens@eniaral@sarasdadandmom@hoosierhokie Today, back n my home stat has turned out to be sad and scary and I edited the above to Tell about it. Just wanted to say thanks for being my friends, and remember to tell your loved ones how Thankful you are for today with them in this world still.

Just read your story about your best friend's daughter. What a scary and sad story. I'm so glad your friend's daughter is okay. She must be very thankful that she missed the class.
Wonderful words about yourself. The story about your best friend's daughter is sad and scary. It makes my hair stand on end. I have heard stories like this before. Somehow, something, someone keeps a person from grave danger. Yes, life is fragile.
Wow, Dixie! If ever there was a case of Divine intervention, this is it! Your friend's daughter will be in my prayers tonight; this has got to be so hard on her.
I just read your story above. Definitely divine intervention in her case. How awful---didn't hear anything about it in the news. Prayers to all involved in this horrible tragedy.
well, dixie, i like you because you're you. and although i may not come here as often as i could, you would know that eventually i'd find my way here to appreciate all the wonderful photos and great stories and beautiful memories. i'm thankful for your friend's daughter and her alarm clock. but when it's our time for the roll call, there's nothing we can do. sad for the victims and their families.
I was just reading about this the other day. Life is so full of strange twists sometimes. One person's alarm fails to go off; another one is right on time. There were stories like this surrounding 9-11 too. We can't understand it- or even explain it. Life truly is a fragile and precious thing. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
