April Purple

This is a clematis bloom that one of my students gave to me, wrapped in a damp paper towel and feeling as soft and fragile and velvety as a butterfly.

Wikipedia purple description is long and involved and fascinatingly includes such details as the fact that violet looks purple to us, but violet is a real color, with a wavelength and looks bluer as is brightens, but purple is only in combination of red and purple and there is no purple wavelength of light.

There were people murdered by Emperor Caligula for wearing purple, and millions of sea snail murdered for the purple dye, and purple was one of the first colors used in cave paintings.

I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.

@tinac1 Yeah, I thought the starfish was distracting too, but every picture this month has a sticker of some type, and I did like the echo of the flowers shape in the starfish sticker.

i love that alice walker quote. and purple clematis is one of my favourite flowers! this is a beautiful clematis and made all the more beautiful the way you described it wrapped in moist paper towel. children are really wonderful creations, aren't they?
